As interested as I am in antiquity though, it is fair to wonder why it would be the comparison instead of modern history…it’s not like these kind of movements are resurrected from thousands of years ago…

Hmmm… meh… I think the over-reliance on the ancient Greeks and Romans for historical/philosophical insight is a byproduct of the enlightenment, though. It’s why for some many years, people just dismissed the middle ages as “the dark ages” and assumed nothing important or meaningful happened…
There is enough difference to do that, I think.
I’m certainly not saying we should ignore the ancients or dismiss them out of hand, just that… we’re very different from them, in many ways, and leaning heavily on them for insight is probably not a great idea, especially since we have to a tendency to distort their era. Or rather our distorted view of them stems from the Enlightenment thinkers co-opting them in their teleological narratives about the past…

There was a time when Congress would push back against Presidential overreach, even when the President was from their own party.
Someone should clue her in on what happens if Trump truly becomes a dictator. At that point, Congress becomes nothing more than window dressing, and all that sweet, sweet lobbyist money goes bye bye.

I know she wants that. I’m just making the point that her current job will no longer earn her any more money than the actual paycheck for it. No more lobbyist money. Some of the Justices on SCOTUS need to wise up as well. If they lose their power and influence under an actual dictatorship, which they would, Harlan Crowe would no longer have any need to pretend he actually likes Clarence Thomas.
