The goddamn Trump Administration

Yeah, not seeing anything on their reviews. Boo.

For the moment, anyways. (Remember everyone semi-seriously saying that Trump would blame the plane crash on DEI, then he actually did it.)

Including no concept of “culture,” “the arts” etc. Their whole conception of “civilization” seems limited to the idea of “guys like them with access to cool gadgets.” That’s what they’re trying to protect and perpetuate, and nothing more than that.

I think both. (And there’s already some overlap - Tony Stark is this Galtian figure who impossibly creates amazing things in a vacuum, without relying on the labor or intelligence of anyone else to do so.)

Only in the movies, he’s not. He’s a mega-super-genius who can do things other people can’t (in a cave with a box of scraps, because they’re movies based on comic-book superheroes), but in the case of the Arc Reactor, he’s just improving on his father’s design. When he needs to invent a new element to put in it, it’s his father who did the work. When he invents Time Travel, it’s only because Antman’s experience and Pym’s research gives him a leg-up. His company is run so well and he has the time and money to do what he does because he relies on Pepper to run everything. He’s relying on other people’s labour and intelligence all the time. And by the same token, they came up with the ideas, but they needed other people to actually make them real. Everyone relies on everyone else.

A blockbuster series of movies based on comic book characters fighting an alien more powerful than a spaceship full of gods who wants to literally reshape the universe, is more realistic than Elon Musk’s worldview.

It’s coming up as “Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)” on gmaps over here, which is bad enough

Yeah, here, too. I don’t get it. They have absolutely nothing to gain from labelling it in this way outside the US, except ill will.

And this is why it’s hard to tell parody or real. I guess since he’s in control of the giant water spigot there’s no need to worry about conserving water.

He posted this today.

I am hereby instructing Secretary Lee Zeldin to immediately go back to my Environmental Orders, which were terminated by Crooked Joe Biden, on Water Standards and Flow pertaining to SINKS, SHOWERS, TOILETS, WASHING MACHINES, DISHWASHERS, etc., and to likewise go back to the common sense standards on LIGHTBULBS, that were put in place by the Trump Administration, but terminated by Crooked Joe. I look forward to signing these Orders. THANK YOU!!!

I don’t know why people are harping on illegality, the supreme court already ruled that the law doesn’t apply to presidential acts. Trump is going to milk that for all it’s worth.

I’m sure that’s how Trump sees it, but that’s not what the Supreme Court said. They said he has presumptive immunity for official acts. Unfortunately, they didn’t provide any guidelines for what constitutes an official act, so that’s something they get to decide in any case that makes it to them. Still…there’s a chance Trump could go too far even for this Court, and they can declare such an act as not being official. And even if it is official, there is the presumptive part. In legalese, that has an important meaning. It means it can be rebutted. In other words, the prosecution can make their case that a specific illegal act isn’t entitled to immunity even if it is an official act.

Now, I have said before, and JD Vance just confirmed my fears, that the real problem is going to come when the Supreme Court does tell Trump no on something, or does try to hold him accountable for an official act. And that is that this administration will just ignore that court decision. And when this happens, it won’t cause A constitutional crises. It will cause THE constitutional crisis. The one that will render our constitution meaningless. There should be mass panic right now in the legal community over the comments Vance made about the courts not being able to tell the executive branch they can’t do something. And not just in the legal community, but among Republicans in Congress and the Judiciary as well. Why? Because an executive with no checks or balances renders both Congress and the Judiciary powerless. Whether they are Republicans or Democrats, they will have no power, and their gravy train will be cut off.

Immunity my not be so good for him.

In a memorandum opinion issued Monday, Judge Beryl Howell wrote, “Given the current circumstances and legal landscape—including that President Trump now enjoys absolute and presumptive immunity from criminal liability, the government has dismissed criminal charges against President Trump and … and no pending or even contemplated criminal enforcement action within the applicable statute of limitations on the topics of responsive records is at all likely,” the exemptions the FBI cited to block the release of information no longer apply.

Sounds like that may be the constitutional crisis that @danimagoo described right above your comment. Are we already there? :grimacing:

So what? These files could contain audio recordings of Trump taking orders from Putin and it would change exactly nothing about his popularity or the ongoing coup

The Roman emperors kept the Senate around for hundreds of years after the emperors were emperors.

They did it not so that it could restrain him, but so that the emperor could go off and invade Germania, or declare war on Poseidon, or go on holiday in Tuscany for a decade or so, or organise a series of increasingly expensive Games, or Orgies, or whatever. And the Senate could continue the boring work of running the empire.

Congress and the Supreme Court under the Trumpist regime isn’t there as checks and balances, it’s to perform the balancing act of keeping the empire functioning and at the same time doing whatever the emperor says.

They will have exactly and precisely the power that the president allows them to have, and the gravy train will, if anything, increase. Trump having fired all the inspectors general and such.

Trump really put Adams on a leash here. Not commuted, not pardoned.

He can reinstate the charges whenever Adams does the smallest thing that Donnie doesn’t like.

When is Adams up for reelection? An opponent could really run with this.
