They would certainly use that to be even worse. I have no answers.
Google and Apple have already done this type of appeasement in places like Russia and China that dispute place names and borders. The only thing happening here is America is now added to the list of authoritarian regimes that demand this action.
A great profile in mediocrity from The Daily Show. This one focuses on Marco Rubio, and his rise to US Secretary of State:
Olga Irwin, a 57-year-old Aids patient and activist from Youngstown, Ohio, also attended Kennedy’s hearing. Irwin, who uses a wheelchair, has lived with HIV for 25 years. Like most people, she has spent little time dwelling on her own demise.
That changed last week, after she attended Kennedy’s confirmation hearing.
She fears the nominee’s history of HIV-denialism and suggestions of cutting Medicaid, the public health insurance program for the low-income that she and 79 million other Americans rely on. Without it, her prescriptions would cost roughly $7,000 per month.
She called her husband after the hearing and said: “‘Sam, I’m gonna fucking die.’ Not because I’m not taking my meds – I’m not going to have access to them. I’m picturing my death.”
He has serious potential to go down as one of the greatest mass murderers in history, right up there with Pol Pot and that tier. So many totally avoidable deaths and injuries. And so few taking this seriously. If this goes the way I see it going, it could seriously change my retirement plans. I don’t know if I can make myself watch the carnage that could have been avoided.
I’m not especially in poor health, but I still estimate I’ve got a 5%, maybe 10%, chance of not making it through the next year with that asshole in. At least if I stay in the US.
This is beyond politics—this is a matter of national security. Foreign national intelligence organizations will be quick to take advantage of both the chaos and the new insecurities to steal US data and install backdoors to allow for future access.
This is the part I don’t get. This is so obviously a huge attack vector and I don’t get why Trump allies don’t see this.
Even if you believe their stupid conspiracy theories about fraud and subscribe to their stupid ideology about DEI and government efficiency, when you let a bunch of kids hook an unknown number of unknown servers into almost all of the most critical backbone networks of your country, surely you must know that all of your adversaries will descend on them like a swarm of piranhas in a 50s pulp novel?
That’s so 1930ies… Modern disruptive fascists have proactively streamlined their processes. Turns out the pretext phase is quite redundant and we can skip right to the execution phase. You just can’t beat private sector efficiency!
not through a sophisticated cyberattack or an act of foreign espionage, but through official orders by a billionaire with a…
I think Schneier mistyped ‘unofficial’ there.
And, frankly, it’s the sort of ‘typo’ (in this case, unthoughtful ignorance) that should not pass. Don’t give the fuckers any credit that what they are doing is even vaguely official.
ETA and the comments below that Schneier article, my god, they simply do not get it.
Will they have sex for the first time in their lives or end up in a concrete pour?
While they’re prime marks for a honey pot; they’ll just be blackmailed by their pedo porn stash.
I’m glad we’re waiting to buy groceries until Saturday, this should lower those prices.

And, crap.
“and when he breaks those promises tomorrow, I will be concerned,” she added.
In college, we had to take a certain number of courses in a variety of subjects. I developed a strategy of taking courses with the coolest names that would fulfill requirements. Thus, one of my art history credits was History of Russian Music 347 (also, History of Salem Witchcraft, Mind and Knowledge, and Oceanography).
Russian classical music is a good subject for a college course, because they didn’t have their own classical music tradition; then Peter the Great decided they would pattern themselves after European style courts, and they started their own music tradition. There’s really only been about 300 years of Russian Classical Music.
At first, this was mostly by outright copying European classical music and adding little Russian folk moments into them. Then they developed their own talent and they had some real cool stuff going on, most of which you have heard in old cartoons.
Then the Soviet Union started up, and the State decided all the music had to be in service of the USSR (same thing happened with the visual arts). There’s some good stuff in there, but it’s a big shift in tone.
This is what I foresee happening right now.
Don’t forget “disappointed”.
