“North Windsor,” typically.
That sounds great. Maybe I can be in South Thunder Bay.
Growing up in Canada, I had a few friends who were fans of US teams, including the Red Wings (the Penguins, the Bruins, and the Islanders were also considered reasonable choices). Their taste might’ve been questioned, but never their patriotism. It was a less tense time, and maybe we’ll get back there soon.
I just remembered my undergrad college roommate and college best friend works for NOAA. Or at least he did. I haven’t heard from him in a long time. He stopped posting on Facebook a few years ago, and he never posted much. He and I bonded as undergrads because we were part of a very small minority of liberal students at Texas A&M, one of the most politically conservative universities in the country. I should see if I can get ahold of him.
I didn’t know that A&M was one of the most conservative U’s in the country. My cousin was married to an A&M alum who pushed for me to go there. He was really conservative (although my cousin isn’t) so I guess it tracks in my personal experience. He took me on a campus tour, but the only thing I remember is going to a really, really good little BBQ rib place. Well, I also remember some of his personal stories about his intense poverty and reliance on the goodwill of his peers while there. He still wound up joining the conservatives, though.
Yeah, it was originally an all male military institute and land grant college. So basically think the Citadel, with academic focus on agriculture and engineering. It opened enrollment to women and ended compulsory ROTC/military training back in the late 1960s, but that history left its mark. It still commissions more officers in the US military every year than any other university outside of the military academies. Now, it’s a state school, so it’s not as conservative as a school like Liberty University, but for a public university, it’s pretty conservative.
The military forces who oppose these orders should just walk away. Go AWOL. What are the military mucky mucks gonna do, court-martial them? They are purging the lawyers.
Don’t think they’ll ever do that since they, too, need a paycheck for food and shelter. Sigh.
Oh yeah, I guess I interpreted your original comment as “one of the most conservative public universities.” That sounds like kind of a bummer, though. I’m glad you found a group of like-minded folks there. I got lost in a sea of liberal elites and my poor mind never recovered. It’s probably for the best that I didn’t have anyone but future military officers to hang with. I suck at reaching out to people and making friends.
I’m not good at making friends either. I got lucky as an undergrad when I met David, the guy I mentioned. We lived in the same hall of the same dorm, and he had 3 high school friends who were also at A&M, so I kind of made 4 friends with minimal effort. One funny part was that I reached out to David about 15 years ago when I transitioned. I hadn’t really kept in touch, but I wanted to tell him that I was trans. He responded by saying, “Cool. I came out as gay a few years ago.” We were both deeply closeted in college, but I suspect we sensed some of that in each other, and that is part of what drew us together as friends.
I’m increasingly of the belief that fascism is always a farce, but since the consequences are so monumental, we can’t treat it as such…
Daww, that’s awesome!
All of my closest friends were people from my hall freshman year, or one hall over. The thought of having a really high proportion of those folks be ultraconservative is scary AF. Although that’s basically my town now… hrm… I guess I’m just more inclined towards being an IRL recluse now?
This is interesting. The email from OPM referenced here was apparently some email from Musk and his boys asking about productivity. I sense a power struggle brewing.
Ooooh; burn!
Ha, muskfuck and voughtass want TPS reports from the fuckin’ FBI (and CIA?)
If I remember correctly, the Twitter layoffs didn’t go very well.
I am not an accountant, but I’m pretty sure the first question on the CPA exam is, “Are you going to get everything right?” and if you answer “I’m not going to bat 1000” you get to just chillax for the next 16 hours.
