Their “quick-strike-coup” approach has caused irreparable harm. But something else is looking truer by the day: when you have a government by and for wealthy white mediocrities, you get plenty of cruelty but also humiliating displays of incompetence. This is, I wrote last week, seen in how ICE is being stymied by their own laziness and demoralization in the face of even modest resistance. That’s now on display across their vaunted agenda. Tons of confusing, chaotic, bombast and executive orders that sound like outakes from Bananas, but when the smoke clears, most the DOGE layoffs literally cut no federal spending. They’re just wrecking agencies they disagree with ideologically and wrecking lives. HHS is so lunatic, Fox News(!) has taken it upon themselves to encourage viewers to get their measles vaccines. Big dummy podcaster Dan Bongino might hurt masses of people from his new FBI desk or he might step on a rake and be knocked unconscious.
It’s tough to sell Musk as a “genius” when his every utterance is a self own. He’s calling astronauts who disagree with him r****ded and introduced us to his son “X.” He’s deeply unwell and the more he basks in the spotlight, the more obvious it becomes.
JD Vance gave a speech praising the German AfD Nazis and it’s thought to have hurt their vote total. Trump is venturing towards “Biden in the debate” territory of mental clarity. And now they want to handpick the White House press corps because their 28 year old not-ready -for-prime-time-press-secretary can’t handle soft ball questions. (Sidenote: her very bizarre husband is 64 and, yes, I do believe in shaming hetero-Nazi couplings)
They have not hired the “best people”. Just misogynist thugs, sycophants, hucksters, and inebriated white nationalists. They are going to do tremendous damage but the chaos and smoke is beginning to clear and people are starting to have their “Homer Simpson was not the brilliant tactician i thought he was” realization.
The breaking away from that fear/awe/depression is a critical starting point. We have to fight not only against this fascist scum. But we need to fight these politicians, media organizations, and labor leaders like that scab Sean O’Brien of the Teamsters, from prematurely complying with illegal, immoral, and unconstitutional dictates. The compliance is killing us just as much as the Mad Apartheid King and his orange baby. The more we don’t comply, the more apparent it is that without instilling fear, they got nothing. Never have bullies been more easily bruised.

Yeah, I was reading that the plan was to use “AI” to filter the submissions for “mission critical” jobs, which would totally work and not be problematic at all. (/eyeroll) And as someone pointed out, all you’d have to do to game it would be to state that everything you did was mission critical (e.g. “I ate a mission critical tuna sandwich…”

Like our Steel and Aluminum Industries, our Great American Copper Industry has been decimated by global actors attacking our domestic production. To build back our Copper Industry, I have requested my Secretary of Commerce and USTR to study Copper Imports, and end Unfair Trade putting Americans out of work. Tariffs will help build back our American Copper Industry, and strengthen our National Defense. American Industries depend on Copper, and it should be MADE IN AMERICA - No exemptions, no exceptions! America First creates American jobs, and protects our National Security. It’s time for Copper to “come home.”

A lot of countries have a “rich bastard visa”: if you invest about a million dollars (sometimes more, rarely less) in the country, they’ll have a visa for you. What’s new about this one is it’s a one-off cash payment directly to citizenship, rather than a visa that leads to citizenship after [x] years.
edit: changed “never” to “rarely”. e.g. Germany has a recommended minimum, but the investment must create at least five German jobs.
