The goddamn Trump Administration

It’ll be hard to takeover Rubio’s Senate seat after the reports.

Though I wouldn’t put it past him to run for Governor in 26.

I think there’s some hope to be found in remembering that when Tromp was elected in 2016, he had a 241-194 majority in the House.

I see that the Republican majority now is 219-213, with three races still waiting to be called. And, political mastermind that he is, some of his appointees are sitting representatives in the House; their exit to the administration will reduce further the number of Republican seats. Matt Gaetz has of course resigned too, so Repubs will have a very slim House majority when Hair Furor enters the White House.

I don’t know if there’s anything much to be even that hopeful about in the Senate.

Hopefully the Republican clown car’s wheels will continually need replacing, while idiots do a terrible job trying to drive it, so terrible that many of them will get voted out two years from now.

I heard on Pod Save America that he resigned his seat in this congress, but won election for the next. So he could be back if he wanted to. I don’t think he wants to, tho. Not a good look having an investigation that was squashed for your AG nomination released because you lost your job before your first day.

According to CNN, he’s not coming back in the next congress.

Ugh, isn’t that basically anything and everything under this incoming administration? I’ll be pleasantly surprised if our mundane rules about this stuff aren’t completely ignored.

How much is that in Scaramuccis?

So next time I need to pass a security clearance, I can just ignore those Mickey Mouse requirements, right?
Right?

Shame the GOP supporters will never hear about her monthly salary that is twice the average US annual income.

Nope, it’ll never even come up, or if it does, there will be some random handwave which is completely accepted.

One lurking rake in the grass to watch for: I read one article that did a breakdown of the federal civil service cuts that DOG-E calls for, and there’s a lot from red states, where there are branch offices in rural districts.

Can you imagine the quick heel-turns of Republican senators and representatives when the proposed cuts hurt their states and districts? (And if they don’t, good luck in 2026!)

I saw this “joke,” and I realized, “yeah, that’s exactly what the current moment feels like.” I mean, Trumpism is a death cult and everything. Truly, the Trump administration is damned…

Then I realized it was a series, going back to the start of the first Trump administration, and it hits even harder, now, e.g.:

“Sorry, But I Don’t See How Nyarlathotep’s Death Cult Is Negatively Affecting American Discourse”

But part of me can’t help but think, “Actually, I think Nyarlathotep would be a step up from Trump as president, seriously…”

Yeah, Stross’ PM Nyarlathotep is actually downright progressive in comparison (after all, he wants the humans to be healthy and long-lived, so he has many years to nibble away at their souls). But even Lovecraft’s story Nyarlathotep, where his fever sweeps the nation, seems rosy in comparison, even though it’s all nightmares and madness - in the real world we’ve got the nightmares and madness, but other stuff as well.

I do not recall distinctly when it began, but it was months ago. The general tension was horrible. To a season of political and social upheaval was added a strange and brooding apprehension of hideous physical danger; a danger widespread and all-embracing, such a danger as may be imagined only in the most terrible phantasms of the night. I recall that the people went about with pale and worried faces, and whispered warnings and prophecies which no one dared consciously repeat or acknowledge to himself that he had heard. A sense of monstrous guilt was upon the land, and out of the abysses between the stars swept chill currents that made men shiver in dark and lonely places. There was a daemoniac alteration in the sequence of the seasons—the autumn heat lingered fearsomely, and everyone felt that the world and perhaps the universe had passed from the control of known gods or forces to that of gods or forces which were unknown.

If Lovecraft was a particularly purple political pundit in 2024, he could have written that about the Trump era…
