For about a decade, some of them have been listening to their leader and his minions repeating on a loop that they’re living in a country that’s gone to hell. They no longer believe anything other than what he says. So no amount of proof will convince them that we haven’t been invaded, that crime is not out of control, Democrats / Big Gov’t are not the source of all the nation’s problems, and Felon47 is not interested in/capable of fixing anything. They live in fear, anger, and disgust - all stoked by liars who are making them poorer by the day.
Since they believe only those on their side are the real patriots, Christians, and/or Americans, anyone who gets in the way of 
are anti-American traitors at best - or in league with the Devil at worst. News reports of backlash against Felon47/Musk’s plans reinforce the belief that evil people are the ones trying to oppose them. They’ve been drained of empathy and trained to find amusement in oppressing others. They don’t want a decent life for everyone - only for folks like themselves.
Their leaders are just molding them in their own image. Despite having wealth and power, a life full of dysfunction and drama does seem like a miserable existence. Maybe that’s why they get most upset by people genuinely laughing or expressing joy.

Normally I’d post this in the commie memes thread, but I’m just so fucking sick of these people justifying people getting spirited away to foreign concentration camps. “These guys are terrorists”, “they are killers/rapists/drug traffickers”, “they are illegals”, “they are bad dudes who shouldn’t be here”. Who cares about the Constitution! Who cares if we don’t know who they are! Who cares if they haven’t been charged with anything? They don’t deserve due process! That’s for real Americans!

This is the reason these sorts of services should never be farmed out to the private sector.
I hate that the people in control can’t / won’t see this, and that they are so morally bankrupt, even if they did learn of it, they wouldn’t care.
Trouble is, the US is so focussed on business, capital and winner vs. loser, that I don’t even think getting rid of Trump and anyone that supports him would make a dent.
At the earliest stages of education, it seems you lot are taught to worship the flag and celebrate the individual over the community, and that winning is more important than anything else.
The rot sets in early.
Still, that doesn’t stop me hoping for another Luigi moment.
Sorry if this comes across badly; it’s just the US is doing a really good impression of the bad guy on the international stage at the moment.

Radio 4’s Today show was highlighting the problems tariffs are causing our steel industry at the moment, but I couldn’t help that think that ultimately, it’s probably a good thing.
With the US government and industry seemingly laser-focussed on reducing costs to maximise shareholder profits at the moment, I wouldn’t be surprised if you start manufacturing really poor quality steel, resulting in the cascade of structural safety issues such short-sightedness causes.
