A Meticulous Breakdown of Trump’s Desperate Attempt to Take Credit for the Starliner Crew’s Return

Maybe like Elno, he uses the kid as a shield?

So big and tough and manly! Oh no, he was brushed lightly by a soft furry object and we need to protect him!
As I try to make sense of what is happening with this administration, I am finding that the people who are knowledgeable of fascism are the most useful to me.
This video in the Wired Tech Support series was great at breaking out some elements of fascism. In some cases, she directly points to how the Trump administration is becoming fascist; in other cases, she discusses historical or current world leaders and you can draw the parallels.
Yeah, I think so… and it’s probably because they themselves are miserable, and so they want to see others suffer, too. And they think it gives them an advantage that they can use to dominate others. It’s (once again) the logic of bullies. They believe misery is the plight of humans, so everyone must be miserable. There is probably a religious angle to that, as well, that we must suffer for our sins, until we die and hopefully get into heaven.
They might even ban formula, and demand all babies be breastfed, ignoring the fact that not all babies CAN be breastfed for a myriad of reasons.
Yep. And they also have a form of learned helplessness there. Like, we can no longer DO things in America - like have a successful and viable space program, which is run by experts employed by the government, because gubmit BAD, but PRIVATE SECTOR GOOD!, so now we hand that shit over to people who make the most sci-fi adjacent noise and let them do it… If we’d had this mindset in the 50s, we’d not only never gotten to the moon, but we’d be speaking Russian now!
Oh it’s not a mere impression.
There goes WH press credential for their entire organization.
This is a long story but last year I was issued a contempt of court summons because some lawyers put me in the middle of a civil suit I wasn’t involved with.
Nobody told me I had the option of just telling a judge no thank you.
“The Government maintains that there is no justification to order the provision of additional information, and that doing so would be inappropriate,”
Great - now I’m gonna have to call Task Rabbit for some help.
I’ll bet you can just start knocking on neighbors’ doors to ask for assistance.
Fiona Hill: The very first time I was in one of the phone calls with Putin, I was listening very carefully to the Russian because the interpreters don’t always capture everything.
They don’t capture the nuances. And particularly when it’s the Russian interpreter who’s translating into a language that’s also not their native language, all kinds of things are missing. And Trump said, what a great, what a great conversation.
I thought, actually, not really. There was all kinds of menace in what Putin had said. He chooses words very carefully.
Many times when Putin and Trump are interacting, Putin’s actually making fun of him. It’s just completely lost in the translation. I can give lots of episodes of this or he’s goading him and urging him onto something because he’s trying to kind of see how he will react.
And the translation, you know, smooths over all of that. That context is obviously missing and he doesn’t do a readout afterwards. And, you know, we heard, for example, that Witkow spent several hours one on one with Putin.
I think it’s a real mixed picture. I mean, as you said, there’s been quite a bit of euphoria in Russia. In fact, they think that they’ve walked into a fairy tale, where somebody finds a golden fish or a firebird – it’s like the genie in the lamp kind of equivalent and all their wishes come true.
And in many respects, that’s what’s happened. Putin wanted Ukraine to capitulate. It looks like that’s what Trump is trying to facilitate for him.
Unless you ask for this, nuance is generally lost in translation. I’ve pointed out before that the Spanish town hall on Univision for Trump made a point of translating what he might have meant and didn’t do a word for word on the word salad he uses. Debates were the same. He sounds halfway intelligent when someone translates for him, in any language. Of course, Fox and most other media does this for him in English.
In spain we switched from 110V to 220V during the 70’s-80’s -to integrate with the rest of the EU-, and the state provided free (and later heavily subsidized) transformers for connecting appliances. It really not that difficult, more expensive on the infrastucture side than on the consumer side. But on the other hand, the average spaniard did not own that many electric appliances: TV, Radio, a clothes washing machine and maybe a space heater. Kitchen was gas, and heating usually too.
French researcher was expelled from US after officials at the border found some nasty remarks about Mr. Trump’s policies on science on his smartphone.
More and more, Lese Majesty will be effectively the law if the land.
I don’t think Doomguy and Trump have that much in common.
