The goddamn Trump Administration

oh, right.
England would have been perfectly happy to stay on the east coast of the continent.

or are you suggesting the indigenous blood would be on George III and subsequent monarch’s hands, leaving the “american colonists” blameless.
not buying it.

In fact there are dozens of Commonwealth states which are sovereign republics, and five (Brunei, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malaysia, and Tonga) which are separate monarchies with their own kings.

I will lay you a bet that he doesn’t know that, though. Shhh. Don’t tell him.

Out of the 56 commonwealth nations, only 15 have the King of England as their head of state. So that would, unfortunately, not be an obstacle

That’s rich coming from the guy who sued repeatedly to keep his tax returns from being made public.

That sounds perfect right about now!

A restriction on westward expansion was one of the key complaints the colonists had against the government.

But I’m just saying Revolutionary War was rather pointless, and we might be better off now had it not happened. We would probably have gun control, healthcare, and slavery would have been abolished 30 years earlier.

well that is 250+ years of speculative historical fiction, innit?
interesting take there. i, however, am not sold. but thanks for explaining.

now, does this mean that i am an “american exceptionalist”, who believes the country is and has been forever flawless? heavens no. our current descent into authoritarianism does not call out for a monarch, nor a constitutional monarchy governed by a parliament. i simply cannot give up on our democratic “experiment” (and yes, it has been, still is an “experiment” in self governance. one that needs work, not abandonment).

“that’s all I have to say about that”.

I am very sympathetic to the idea that it isn’t worth celebrating a war that got a couple hundred thousand killed to avoid ending up like…Canada or Australia. But this seems like a very rose-colored take too. Given that the south was willing to rebel against America to hold onto slavery, it seems very likely it would have been willing to against England too. For that matter I’ve heard it suggested that was one of the concerns they had when they did rebel against England along with restriction on expansion.

To be fair, under Trump the IRS information would be used for pretty much anything but collecting taxes.

There’s video in the link, Lutnick is such an arrogant ass.

He claims her sold 1000 5 million dollar cards in one day. He never says where that money is or where it’s going.

Interesting; although if King Charles is inviting the U.S. to be part of the British Commonwealth, it would likely be King Charles as the head of state, represented by a Governor General. It’s not going to happen though; this is a fever dream that Krasnov is having.

It’s often referred to as the body of “sober second thought”, but all they do is rubber stamp what parliament has voted on, and they are appointed, not elected.

I agree.

I suppose I’m thinking of it in the inverse — that the people of the USA would be a healthier society if we had not been so inclined to start a war to chase after “liberty.”

It’s not just kids who are damaged. My screen used 400-750 THz electromagnetic radiation to convey this message to my eyes and I feel much stupider because of it.

This is classic vox populi, the “bread” bit in “bread and circuses”.
