Like Trumpy, Welker never took civics or AP government in school.
People do buy “American” cars — Honda, Toyota, BMW, Audi, VW, and Subaru sell many cars that are more “American” than most cars made by Chrysler, Chevrolet, Ford, and other American brands. American brands don’t make interesting vehicles anymore — it’s all fucking trucks and SUVs of increasing levels of largeness, and they are almost all made in Mexico or Canada.
So if two countries, neither of which are the US, trade which each other, the US is going to collect a tariff? How would that even work?
At some point will we see some accounting related to all these tariffs? Including all the ass-kissing “donations” made to try to get exemptions?
I think what Krasnov is threatening to do is to increase existing tariffs or impose new ones on, say, Canada and France, if we strike a trade deal that is a workaround for dealing with the U.S.
He doesn’t own that much in NYC really. He would love to take revenge against the city by bombing it and then redevelop it. Like Gaza.
On that topic, I read this today. Simon Tisdall has been writing for The Observer for half a decade and is always good for insight. His short, sharp - not to say pointed - sentences are a model of clarity.
Pithy phrases from this article include:
Trump, America’s burger-eating surrender monkey, sides with Russia
Trump and his good ’ol boys, oozing online hillbilly hostility
Highly recommended reading, on his final appearance in the paper.
But honestly I want to call out one thing that this article I think gets a little wrong.
In the minds of Trump’s advisors, however, it seems clear that they believe all of these wars really may have been about protecting the world from communism and terrorism, and now they resent all of this work the US has allegedly done to protect the world from these evils, and now Europe needs to step up and involve themselves more fully in this epic struggle. It’s all just a fantasy based on a fantasy, but for them, it happened — it seems like they saw it on the History Channel, so it must be true.
I was surprised the author wasn’t from Europe tbh because this isn’t just “propaganda” from the “history channel” because our leaders are too dumb to know the difference.
I went to an bona fide accredited US university, more than one, and at no point was this narrative challenged by anyone outside of like the art departments and even then only in the context of making political art, which was very out of style at the time and often met with derision… never was the narrative of the valorous lost causes and US freedom fighting challenged in a way that actually insinuated this was untrue.
They would, sometimes, in hushed tones if you took the right classes, whisper about the ravages of slavery or make a resentful passing nod to some other kind of minority group… but you literally never actually had to take those courses. Like you could never take them at all and get literally any degree outside that highly specific discipline. They were… jokes… to the faculty. And jokes were made in class and out of it to make sure everyone knew.
I was in college on the day of 9/11 for instance. I recall my professor explaining to me why these horrible muslims were gleefully doing this. At no point has the University system done anything that didn’t uphold this in my years there.
This is what my economics professors taught.
This is what my philosophy professors taught.
This is what I was taught to teach when I became an adjunct.
What you are seeing is the culmination of that effect on my generation and everything after it, history has been written again:
Desires = whims.
Civics class, shmivics class - he knows he can’t serve a third term, and he doesn’t give a fuck and will try everything, thinkable or unthinkable, to do it.
NBC’s Kristen Welker asked Trump if one potential avenue to a third term was having Vice President JD Vance run for the top job and “then pass the baton to you.”
A trick he learned from Putin and Medvedev.
Let us not forget Lurleen Wallace.
Would Vance give up the presidency though? He seems like an opportunist rather than a true believer. That’s assuming he’d win.
Yeah, big assumption/if, that. He’s a laughable turd.
I’m tempted to say the Dems couldn’t lose, but then I remember how sexist and racist the white majority (especially) is.
It’s true, much of what Rovics says about the US in that piece has long been like news from Neptune to most citizens. It’s no wonder that the current administration’s ignoramuses really believe the current iterations of passion-stirring propaganda.
Tramp himself, cynical narcissist that he is, seems somewhat more aware in this respect. For instance, he recently admitted (basically) that transphobia is just a tool for winning votes. I’m sure his newfound claims to religious belief are the same (though his patriarchal white supremacy does seem sincere).
Not only that but they’d have to openly run the campaign with that plan.
Well, only in so far as Vance the presidential candidate would, I guess, have to name Trump as his VP running mate - which would look mighty suspicious and lead to people drawing their own “bleedin’ obvious” conclusions.
But they’d deny it to the death. Although Trump being Trump would not be able to keep his mouth shut about it, and would drop hints galore.
Yeah, ok, pretty openly, after all.
