That’s part of what gets me. This bill is completely pointless and they more-or-less acknowledge that within the bill itself! There’s a list of entities that would have to approve the change before it could actually happen and there’s just no way. (I mean, at least the Indiana GA House acknowledges that Illinois “might” not agree to this?)

Ah! Okay, I wasn’t sure about that either. So that makes this whole thing even more ludicrous. (And yeah, I didn’t grow up in Illinois, but I could probably recognize minute changes in a border map for North Carolina for much the same reason.)

I should probably also add that St Louis, MO very much would NOT want to have East St Louis, IL added to their state (the population is mostly Black, and there’s a lot of racism in St Louis).

My understanding is that they can’t (by design). Once put into the prison, it’s basically a black box where inmates don’t even officially have names. The whole thing is monstrous beyond belief. (And the whole thing is set up that if they “mistakenly” send US citizens to the prison, there’s nothing they can do about that, either.)
But they have gang tattoos! That’s the single bit of “evidence” used consistently as proof.

Honestly, at this point we don’t know that it hasn’t already. ICE have been picking up quite a few US citizens recently, and they’re disappearing people without their family knowing, so the conditions are there.

If I were a trans or non-white immigrant right now, legal, undocumented, or naturalized, I would be making plans. Hell, they’ve detained some white tourists at the border. Yeah, if you aren’t a multi-generation white, cis, straight American, I would be concerned. Fuck, I really hate this.
