The goddamn Trump Administration

I agree that’s what they’d try but it’s not as simple as that. The Marshals also protect judges and courts - which seems like it could be a win-win for the administration, but there’s no way even conservative judges will stand for having their protection removed, and even Marshals who are on board with T****’s agenda won’t just lie down and get fired. The judges will rule against defunding the Marshals and the Marshals will enforce that ruling. Don’t get me wrong, that’s DEEP into Constitutional Crisis territory, but we’re already in a Constitutional Crisis. There’s no other play.

This is an interesting bit from that article:

The Gilsons agreed that the big local industrial employers have generally been good neighbours, contributing to the local economy, charities and the wider community, even as they have seen some less desirable effects of industrial development and worry about unequal sharing of the economic pie.

And as they recounted Delta’s history, they described a gradual erosion in quality of life that they believe has made many people willing to roll the dice even when economists say Trump’s tariff plan comes with stark risks.

“It was a good little town to grow up in,” Rob Gilson recalled. But he said it now seemed less safe and friendly than when he was growing up in the 60s and 70s.

“It seems like the heart of America is gone,” he said.

Delta, Louise Gilson added, “is the kind of place where 25% or 30% of the people are struggling with their demons”.

So, it seems to me, and I hear this a lot, these people want to go back in time, basically to their childhoods. A time they remember as being really simple, and really good. The thing is, of course, that it was never as good as they thought it was, not even for their families. It used to be easier, I think, for parents to insulate their children from the weight of the world. News wasn’t running on tv 24/7 and it wasn’t available at our fingertips on smart phones. But more importantly, while life back then may have been simpler and better for them (it probably wasn’t, but let’s just pretend it was for a moment), it certainly wasn’t for everyone. It wasn’t for people of color, especially women of color, it wasn’t for LGBTQ people, it wasn’t for a lot of people. I understand they think these tariffs will bring back manufacturing and bring back a world where a factory job could allow someone to buy a 3 or 4 bedroom house and raise a family of 5 on one income, but they won’t and these people are in for a rude awakening. One of the people interviewed may be right about one thing, though.

“The other people wouldn’t have done squat,” she said, referring to the Democratic Party.

Huh. My bad. I was going by the language on the US Marshals Service website.

Thank you for digging right to the legislation.

I wonder if that website has changed. The wikipedia article on the US Marshals Service links to their website, but it’s an archived version on the Wayback machine. Which is why I ended up going to a different source. I wouldn’t be surprised. There have been a lot of shenanigans going on with government websites.

I found that worked the best for me; I couldn’t figure out the other methods.

I didn’t realize that was real. I assumed it was a parody.

I really, really hate that media pass that message along without any fact-checking. Democrats did do something. They keep doing things for this guy’s ignorant ass even when he votes against him. Biden famously provided more help and relief to areas that voted against him than for him. But because Dems have the audacity to defend the rights of those others, this jackass keeps voting for the guy who is robbing him blind.

Well that was a woman, but I’m also not convinced that Harris would have continued the progressive policies of the Biden administration. I think she would have returned to the neoliberal policies of Reagan through Obama. Better than Trump, for sure, but I’m not sure she would have done much to improve the lives of labor. I think that’s part of the reason she lost.

You might be right, but how much of that was rhetoric to get elected vs actual policy planning? Walz is certainly a real progressive. I don’t think he would be on board with regressing to Neoliberalism. And that was a big concern about Biden in 2020, and with good reason because that was his track record. But instead, he was the most progressive president by policy and action since LBJ.

And let’s talk about Obama. He’s not my favorite. We all might be disappointed with the milquetoastiness of the Affordable Care Act. Nonetheless, it was both effective at its stated goal (reaching 90+% health insurance coverage rates) and somehow remains popular even among the MAGA crowd.
