What is this? I am confuzzled.
no, this is bald naked market manipulation.
It’s the kind of thing Dr. Mabuse would do.
He certainly was at it enough to have it sink in. I have vague recollections about Trump getting in (slight) trouble in the '80s and '90s for various kinds of stock manipulation - issuing fake earning statements for his casino to keep the stock price up even as it was about to go bankrupt, and a whole period of time where he made his money by taking out loans, buying stock in various companies and then making big public statements about how he was going to buy them and selling the stock when the price went up. He got away with that one a surprising number of times until people actually caught on.
And I would expect it to drop again tomorrow when hungover investors realize that the “pause” doesn’t affect the US’s three largest trade partners, representing 37% of US trade. That, and reasonably the US bond market won’t recover for years, if ever.
So remember all those deficit hawks squawking about the national debt? The one way the US could screw itself when it comes to debt is to ruin the market for US government bonds…
ETA: The Daily Show has the most cogent analysis of the T**** tariff boomerang:
She didn’t know she was going to be used as a prop for more of his election nonsense.
But she ended up being on hand in the Oval Office while Trump signed executive orders and took questions on a range of issues, some prosaic and others highly controversial, for nearly an hour. Trump signed two presidential memoranda revoking security clearances for former Homeland Security officials, one who angered him for saying the 2020 election was secure and another who wrote a critical book about him. He also signed an order rolling back water conservation standards for showerheads.
In discussing the other official, Christopher Krebs, Trump slammed his assessment that the 2020 election was the most secure in U.S. history.
“It was a very corrupt election,” Trump said. “They used COVID to cheat.”
Whitmer stood by watching with Trump administration officials and the media.
A spokesperson for the potential 2028 presidential contender later said she wasn’t aware she would be pulled into the executive order signing event.
“The governor was surprised that she was brought into the Oval Office during President Trump’s press conference without any notice of the subject matter," the spokesperson said. "Her presence is not an endorsement of the actions taken or statements made at that event.”
On Tuesday, the Trump administration announced a hold on all research funding to Northwestern University (nearly $800 million) and Cornell University ($1 billion). These involved money granted by multiple government agencies, including a significant amount from the Department of Defense in Cornell’s case. Ostensibly, all of these actions were taken because of the university administrators’ approach to protests about the conflict in Gaza, which the administration has characterized as allowing antisemitism.
However, Princeton University ended up being targeted this week purely due to the results of its research. The Department of Commerce, which houses the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), terminated $4 million in funding for climate research at Princeton. It accuses the research programs of fostering “climate anxiety” and, in a remarkable bit of candor, admitted that funding was being cut because it didn’t produce results the administration liked:
This cooperative agreement suggests that the Earth will have a significant fluctuation in its water availability as a result of global warming. Using federal funds to perpetuate these narratives does not align with the priorities of this Administration and such time and resources can be better utilized elsewhere.
It is absolutely no use trying to assign sensible or even understandable rationale to these attacks, because they are not because anything, they are an attack on education and research, because he doesn’t understand it and that makes it bad. Things that are complicated or that don’t please his assness by definition “do not align with the priorities of this Administration.” We are so fucked…
Can he just stfu.
“We’re going to be announcing very shortly a major tariff on pharmaceuticals,” Trump said Tuesday at the National Republican Congressional Committee dinner, although he didn’t specify the size of the tariff or when it would be implemented.
And, suprise, look who’s buying the dip her man created while the rest of just have to watch.
But the low-risk nature of T-Bills means investors are highly unlikely to experience losses on their money, making them a safer bet than regular stocks.
On March 16, March 19 and March 24, Greene spent $100,000 to $250,000 per transaction on T-Bills, according to Capitol Trades, a platform devoted to sharing politician trading data.
The Trump ally invested between $300,000 and $750,000 in Treasuries, according to the filings.
Trump blinked after angering our creditors.
other countries pay much lower prices for the same medicines
Bernie had the right answer for this.
Also, that dipshit (Vox Day) was involved in attempt to rig the vote for the Hugo awards in favor of white men a while back.
Jinx, @OWYAC!
It looks like a court filing of some kind, with bible verses as evidence or support for the legal argument?
Sadly, Peter Navarro is actually an economist. He has a PhD in economics from Harvard and taught economics at UCSD and UC-Irvine. And like RFJ, Jr, at one time was highly regarded as an environmentalist, because environmental economics was his specialty. Then he got obsessed with China and trade, which he knows nothing about, and here we are.
Worse than that maybe. I’m certain the true insider traders were buying/selling options within like an 8 hr timeframe. So once they cash out they are done and everyone holding continues to see red.
“Musk has attacked the Federal Aviation Administration and Federal Communications Commission to benefit SpaceX,” said another former top official at the regulator. “Why would he spare NHTSA?”
Answer, of course, is that he will not.
It’s an amicus brief filed by what looks like a bunch of sketchy MAGA-aligned pro gun groups I’ve never heard of. Makes sense. The 2nd Commandment was “Thou shall not take thy neighbor’s assault rifles.”
We’ve supported her through everything and now this…
I know she may be setting up a presidential run but I don’t think this is the way.
I haven’t read the article, but I’d guess she’s doing that because labor unions are stupidly supporting the tariffs.
