I think “strange” is used here in the sense of unusual, uncommon, anomalous, etc.
Which makes sense. Post WW II, the USD has been the currency because it was issued by the country with the most powerful economy, a wealth of resources, a huge domestic market and the most powerful military on the planet. Stable and able to weather any storm. The very definition of “too big to fail”. Always a safe haven in financial terms.
But now that the USA seems hellbent on destroying itself from within, well…
Yep. I’m with you on the feelies. The medias’ slow crawl toward “that Rubicon” could be described as possibly being asymptotic, that is, approaching, but never getting there, wherever “there” is. It certainly feels like it, but that concept, although useful as a metaphor, strictly applies to mathematics; ultimately, humans generate history, and history, IMHO, isn’t a collection of data points. So, keep your bluehenbear chin up!
Sadly, yes. The @WhiteHouse Twitter account has basically devolved to becoming a shitposting arm of the Trump administration.
These are real posts:
(Using an AI generator to create a Studio Ghibli styled image of a woman arrested for allegedly trafficking fentanyl.)
(Context: On the left, Trump is giving some sort of award to the mother of a child killed by a MS-13 gang member. On the right, Van Hollen meeting with Abrego Garcia, who the Trump admin accuses of being a MS-13 gang member.)
(JFC, WTF.)
And it’s not publicly known who actually runs the account.
ETA: Some other gems
(Comparing Trump to a murderous criminal who ruined the lives of untold numbers of people? That tracks.)
Agreed, but the media also has two strikes against it on seeing and describing what is really occurring. First they are compelled to normalize Trumpy and his cronies. Secondly, all of their output is through the lens of “both sides.” They’ve been doing this for years. It isn’t merely a bad habit for them, it has become hardwired into their main controls.
They are unable to report accurately on how much the Trump administration is diminishing this country’s power. When the Euro becomes the main currency it will come as a surprise to them.
I love how Reich keeps using the term “tyrant” instead of calling out Trump by name. Not all failed tyrants have been taken down only by refusing to feed them. And Reich’s speech reminds Berkeley’s governors that they should directly respond as Harvard did.
We had several Berkeley summer-hires waft through the first company I worked for here in SoCal, they receiving a taste of different departments as they made their way through, all bright, and cheerfully enthusiastic and aching to learn and apply. Those kids were all right, and I’m certain the batch now at Berkeley will make themselves heard when (not if) Trump threatens to go at Berkeley’s curriculum and culture with his axe.
Motherfucking thugs!
Turner sacrificed whatever morals he may have had.
Funny how they don’t mention that his “sacrifice” was being falsely accused of crimes by one of his disciples and publicly executed.
That’s just capitalism, though.
This is true. Judas got his 30 pieces of silver.
Also worth noting Jesus was given more due process than those that the Trump admin is sending off to a Salvadoran concentration camp.
You are right. Let’s hope that people in positions of power reflect on that this Easter.
“Our ICE officers are facing 300% increase in assaults while carrying out enforcement operations.”
It’s heartening news, but the even 300% increase suggests either it’s bullshit, or it went from one incident to three. Also, even if true and numerous, “assault” doesn’t really mean much in this context. I was just reading about how, when law enforcement shows up at houses without warrants, they try to get someone to open the door so they can stick their foot in the door. That way, if someone even threatens to close it, they can arrest they for assault (even though, technically, they’re trespassing by putting a foot in the door).
Still, even a hint of push-back against ICE is good.
They tried this shit during the first Trump administration - ICE agents were regularly boarding Greyhound buses, but there was serious pushback and Greyhound banned them. I wonder if Greyhound’s policy is still the same, so ICE are going after transportation forms where they have more leverage over management, or ICE are just so emboldened now, they’re going to do it over legal objections…
The posts smack of something from a brain-washed 12-year-old.
Probably one of Musk’s teenage DOGE goon squad.
I was going to say Stephen Miller or Stephen Cheung. One of the Steves. One of the ones doing the brainwashing, but not emotionally developed past their tween years. So your point stands.
