Listening to the orange asshole speak and all I can think of is this:
Not watching this shit.
Heard bits and pieces on the radio, read about the latest crypto-grift (sigh), switched the tv over.
Proper crap inauguration, this.
Nowhere near enough Luigis.
I don’t know how the Bidens stay that cordial to him.
There’s no way I could do it.
Reminds me of the Obamas hugging it out and holding hands with Shrub. Maybe like Carlin said, it really is a big club, and we’re not in it.
I’m realizing that Trump’s “shock and awe” campaign against the US, signing nearly 100 orders on his first day, means that it’ll take days/weeks just to sort through them and figure out what we’re facing (much less mount any sort of opposition). And that this will likely be true for his entire time in office. The last time he was in office, they sort of stumbled around ineptly trying to come up with various policies without any coherent direction. Thanks to the prep time Project 2025 has had, it means the dynamic of his first term, where his scandals cropped up so frequently that there was never time to focus on one before the next one hit, will apply to everything he does. We’ll get lost just trying to track everything that’s going on.
Mrs. Ficus made the mistake of turning on the TV. Trump was using his valuable and historic inaugural speech time to ramble on about helicopters, the 2020 election, Liz Cheney, fraudulent votes in California, complaining about Congressional Democrats not voting with Republicans, DOJ corruption, and other random thoughts. Mike Johnson was standing there stupidly grinning and nodding along. Vance had an empty expression. That was all in the 3 or so minutes it was on TV. We decided to watch Halloween Cookie Challenge instead.
It’s the Steve Bannon “flood the end zone with bullshit” strategy. Except this time there’s an actual plan. As always, Trump doesn’t give a shit about any of it since at his core he has no real ideology outside of “what benefits me personally”. He just goes where the money is, and there’s lots of very powerful and dangerous interests pulling his strings.
I made a bucket for the Project 2025-specific “everything.”
And I will the first to admit I have a hard time figuring out which things are related to that “project” and which actions are merely 's “The Cruelty Is the Point™” less organized methods.
Plus also how much he loves being adored. I think it’s why he stands there babbling for so long in front of audiences. He’s basking narcissistically in what he thinks is adoration.
He just signed a proclamation that all flags be flown full staff for future inauguration days.
Hmmm; I wonder if that means that he’s planning to have more inauguration days …
Really helping with those egg prices, isn’t he?
This morning I realized that he’d massively increased the number of conflicts of interest he has, just in the last week, but while the first time around he made a big show of pretending he was avoiding them, now there’s not even the pretense - he’s just openly adding to them. Front row of the inauguration, in front of even his own cabinet, were Musk, Bezos, Zuckerberg… He’s downright flaunting the idea that people are pulling his strings (even if there’s still some degree of misdirection about who). And no one is really objecting to any of it. There’s no expectation that he’s going to be ethical or follow norms, and no point in trying to pretend we can make him (or that anyone will care).
Yeah, it’s going to be all mixed up, and Trump will have his own, stupid versions of their policies, which may or may not exist parallel to their own, more canny implementations. (With Trump’s versions acting either as deliberate smoke-screens to draw attention, performative actions for maximum attention and/or poor impulse control lashings out.) Ow, my head.
Christ, every little misstep Biden did was a giant national catastrophe for these fucking people. Trump is just so nakedly corrupt, and they love him for it.
I’m not sure what to make of the fact that Melania opted to dip into the Judge Doom collection today. It looks suitably ominous though, and pairs nicely with the existential dread gnawing at my innards.
