Growing up in a secular family who bought a bunch of TIME-Life books series about the sciences (1965, they’re relics now) as well as the World Book Encyclopedia sets, I knew more about science than my peers for most of my life. I’m like Arna, Marlys’ and Maybelle’s and Freddy’s cousin from “Ernie Pook’s Comeek” by Lynda Barry. (for those not in the know, Freddy is already pretty science-oriented)
Ever since Reagan they’ve tried to keep the ignorant that way. Plus the misuse of the concept of the Christian deity to fit their own feelings and opinions to scare the ignorant away from science…what else can I say?

I loved the Time-Life books; we got every book in every series.
My parents made my sister and I go to church for a few years, so that we could make up our own minds when we were old enough. It was a very liberal United Church (like Episcopalian in the US). Neither of my parents were church goers.

I don’t love this argument though. I’m not sure it’s true. An embryo is usually considered female, but I’ve also heard people say that’s because so much of developmental science came from the perspective of looking at what made them into males. If people actually spent the same effort looking at what made them into females, they might discover there are just as many changes necessary. Really an embryo is an embryo – it is not any kind of person other than potential.
And of course it doesn’t matter for this, because while I might care about what’s true, these people don’t.

Science is very clear that sex is bimodal but not binary, and those two common types don’t cover the natural variation of humans. It’s even confirmed that trans men have brains like cis men and trans women have brains like cis women, if asking them wasn’t enough. Transphobes don’t care. This. Even their “definition” of males making small reproductive cells and females making large reproductive cells is stupid, considering that it is much, much later in development that anyreproductive cells are made. The idea of using this definition at conception is insane. But facts are immaterial to these guys. They are immune to any truth or fact by their unquestioned obedience to their masters. There is no logic, it is following orders. They gave up on 4 lights a long time ago. They will see what they are told to see.
