Yeah they really help us get through the day. Fortunately we have two more cats, Sonatina and Lyta – and they’re very friendly. I don’t know what they think about the monkeys though. "Oh, crap, you want to pick me up again?"
yeah. it’s been over 10 years now since we lost them, but they both went pretty quickly in time one after the other. afterwards, yeah, everything felt emptier but we just wanted to take some time to mourn before getting new cats. that lasted about a year. i still think of them all the time, and sometimes catch myself calling our two new cats by our original pair’s names. as for monkeys, i’m constantly pawing them which makes them have to clean AGAIN… i joke with them that it must be so frustrating, always having to get the monkey stink off. but i can’t help it – they are so soft and pettable!
We probably won’t wait a year before getting a new cat. The house just doesn’t seem right without Dyson and Talia. But maybe not for awhile. I don’t think we’ll ever get up to six again! But two is just . . . not right. I think of all the cats we’ve lost over the decades (five now), but to have two leave in less than four weeks is just rotten.
Both Talia and Dyson had the softest fur. It was funny to see the licking start the minute you start petting them. Talia often did that.
I was awoken this morning by a shrill keening noise, which turned out to be a baby rabbit that Sugarplum had caught. The fur on its back is missing from mid-back to the tail. It’s currently in a cardboard box with a damp piece of bedsheet on the injured area, and that is inside the wooden cat-carrier my father built decades ago. It’s still alive and active but probably in shock, as I type this. There are no wildlife rehabbers in my area, so I’m thinkin’ it’s going to be my son and I figuring this out. Eep.
I MISS LUKE LICKING MY FACE.
I can imagine. I’m sorry.
I’m so sorry.
Thanks. It’s been a tough month.
yeah, i get it. i kept spying them out of the corner of my eye, and then remember that no, that can’t be : (
two cats are plenty for us, but now after getting Nick and Nora as siblings, i’m a big proponent of sibling kittens. even full grown, they still cuddle together and clean each other. i think it has led to a happier life for both of them.
The bunny died. But its injuries were more than we could overcome at home.
If it helps, we’ve tried saving baby bunnies before and learned a lot (from two different vets) in the process: basically, it is almost impossible to save a baby bunny in distress. They’re just not very hardy and the care necessary is well beyond what an average person can do in their own home setting.
Thank you so much for that - it’s genuinely comforting. At least it didn’t die screaming with fear and pain.
oh man, i’m sorry. poor baby bunny : (
This is the western border of my property, behind the garage.
Thanks. I can only imagine it was a better death than being slowly eaten.
I THINK this is a cat that lived with my dad’s mom, and his name is Useless. My mom said that when he wanted out, he’d go to whoever was sitting in the chair by the front door and mew politely; if the human didn’t respond, he would meow a bit louder. And if the human continued to ignore him, he’d start to mrowr.
But since there’s no writing on the back of the photos, I have to go by the background and the shoes of the lady in the top photo. Those I’m fairly sure are the feet of my father’s paternal grandmother. I believe this was taken in the 1950s.
Hound is home from her armpit cancer surgery. She seems well.
We said goodbye to our Lola today.
She would have been 14 in November.
She had two seizures on Wednesday, which led to a trip to the Emergency Vet. They found that she had a tumor on her Spleen and pulmonary hypertension. They prescribed some medicine to make her more comfortable, but didn’t expect that we’d have much time. She had three more good days, and then woke up very weak and had difficulty breathing Sunday morning. We met with our family vet, and he helped her drift off to sleep one last time.
She was a good dog, and she will be missed dearly by her entire family.
She would often lay next to me on the couch, and would sleep next to me in bed at night. Since the start of me working at home due to the Pandemic, I had set up a bed on an elevated platform next to my desk so she could nap next to me while I worked. Those are the situations that are going to be the hardest for me for a while.
