The Trans Experience

His, unless I am mistaken about the preferred pronouns; Sade has a transgender son.

Thatā€™s correct. I think @Dogbutler may have assumed that the video you posted was of Sadeā€™s childā€™s music. But I donā€™t think heā€™s a musician. I think heā€™s a model and an artist.

Thatā€™s exactly what I assumed.
I got that very wrong.

Apologies for my muddle.

ETA: Also, apologies to @Melizmatic .
Although it was late, I canā€™t believe I managed to parse your sentence so badly.

Especially when Sadeā€™s name is right there on the video!

Changing to a different tangent (but still on topic for this thread), I learned earlier this week that one of my good friends is a girl like me, but due to the work environment he are in (and other reasons) he canā€™t really come out publicly, especially not the way I have. I spent a long evening just talking and catching up with him, and while I donā€™t know the second thing about being trans (hell, still getting a hang of the first thing!), I do have the lived-in experience which plays off the massive amount of research heā€™s been doing.

I get the odd feeling that Iā€™m gonna end up being a big sister to him, though. I do know that we have each other, and the support of our mutual circle of friends, and thatā€™s a HELL of a lot.

And what they donā€™t get is that Biden was the best president on trans equality and said Transgender Discrimination ā€˜Civil Rights Issue of Our Timeā€™ when he was vice president in 2012 - 22 goddamn years ago.

But sure unnamed pundit- you know his commitment and feelings here.

Since this was a public post, I worry about how underground it really is, but theyā€™re a real organization.

Wellā€¦ Itā€™s not like people didnā€™t know about the Underground railroad/abolitionist groups at the time, but their activities were as obscured as they could get it, even if many people were aware of the organizations that underpinned it.

One thing that absolutely kills me about this whole ā€œDems are pushing policies about transgender stuff that are out of touch with regular people!ā€ argument is that thereā€™s not actually a single advance in trans rights being discussed. The ā€œout of touchā€ positions are the status quo.

So, as awful as Floridaā€™s anti-trans bathroom bill is, there is some incorrect information in that video. The law only applies to facilities owned or leased by the state of Florida or local government entities. That still sucks, and covers a lot of ground, but the law does not apply to federal facilities. So if youā€™re trans and you go to the Kennedy Space Center, you can use the restroom matching your identity. It also doesnā€™t apply to restaurants, bars, shopping malls, etc. Only state and local government facilities. This includes schools, which were the real target of the law.

The law also basically creates a new class of a trespass. This means they canā€™t just immediately arrest you if youā€™re in the ā€œwrongā€ bathroom. First, a government employee has to ask you to leave the restroom. If you comply, they canā€™t arrest you. You can only be arrested if you refuse to leave the restroom. Again, this all sucks, and I donā€™t blame anyone for wanting to avoid Florida because of it. I just want to clarify how the law there works.

Still a lot of bullshit just to take a pissā€¦ :sob:

Indeed. I also wouldnā€™t want to move to Florida just because homeownerā€™s insurance there has got to be ungodly expensive, if you can even get it.
