So…genocide? In other words, keep doing what they are doing.

That seems avoidable.

I hate this headline. One country being asked to cede part of its sovereign territory to an invader is not a “land swap.” Russia isn’t proposing to “swap” anything.

It’s a fair trade: you give me all your lunch money, and I promise to stop beating you up for your lunch money.

Ah, the old “you started this by hitting my boss in the fist with your face!” line…

Any leader can end any war they’re involved in by immediately surrendering. The reason wars happen is that’s usually not a great deal. :unamused:

Russian troops troll Trump by flying US flag on assault mission in Ukraine

A story I saw reported on Boing Boing:

https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/russian-president-vladimir-putins-bodyguards-carried-poop-suitcase-to-alaska-summit-heres-why-9105653

As weird and paranoid as this story seems, I’m starting to think that it might be the standard protocol for some other world leaders too. I would not be the least bit surprised if Trump or even Biden’s security team took similar measures. It’s easy to test for markers of colorectal cancer and find out what medications someone is on from such a sample, and I would imagine that the condition of a head-of-state’s rectum is typically a closely-guarded secret.

But I do take a certain amount of satisfaction thinking about how Putin has to defecate in a bucket while traveling instead of using a nice fancy commode.

Maybe it is just a conspiracy theory…

Ran across this the other day in “History of the Peloponnesian War.” It’s Athens negotiating the take-over of Melos.

It reminded me of Russia and Ukraine.
