and @MerelyGifted: Live armadillos were plentiful at Kennedy Space Center! Ages ago, but still this century, did the “historic” tour and the original launch pad was just lousy with 'em!

Black vulture on the water tower two lots down from my house.

It’s disconcerting when a bunch of them gather up there when I’m working in the yard.

A carpenter bee landed on my dog treat bag this morning when I stopped to talk to a neighbour. They apparently prefer to live in small social groups of about 5 bees, in nests that they burrow out of wood, and some don’t even have stingers. They look very much like bumblebees in size and rotundity, but have no yellow stripes on the abdomen, and are a completely different genus.

We have a small colony of the all-black carpenter bees living in the wood pile. They are pretty cool!
