Thousands of Amazon Prime members accounts mysteriously deleted

Time to check your account. I don’t have Prime, but I did discover that I needed to log into my account over again, which is weird because usually on the phone app it just leaves you logged in. I have a bad feeling that some tech support people have a lot of explaining to do.

Whoa, that’s a nasty mess. Glad I don’t work for them.

Interestingly, it’s kind of similar to some of the messes that happened in Canada with the recent conversion of both Loblaws and Shoppers Drug Mart points accounts to the new PC Optimum. Makes me wonder if there’s something similar on the back end. I could see Loblaws using an Amazon turnkey solution, for instance.

an algorithm that tries to detect review fraud […] may have closed the account

One trivial little bug in a routine like that could accidentally knock out a ton of accounts if it just autocloses them with no human review/followup/confirmation. Sort of like when a spam filter just decides to dump a bunch of non-spam email into the spam folder.
