Hossenfelder needs to stay in her lane; she’s a theoretical physicist, but has weighed in on transgender folk and a few other things that she knows little about; Engineer Syndrome. And then Rebecca Watson will rip her to shreds.

I don’t know. I’m not a biologist but I feel entirely comfortable weighing in – sex determination is complicated, the results are bimodal but not binary, sometimes people’s brains end up developing differently than other parts of their body, and if you need to know what gender someone really is the easy answer is to ask them. Maybe the problem isn’t people speaking out of turn but being assholes about it.

It’s actually pretty sad, because she is a pretty good communicator within her field. But yeah, Dunning-Kruger kicks in hard in folks who really are geniuses within a limited area, when they try to opine on unrelated fields.

I think that was the original video. There was at least one more that Watson was critical of, when Hossenfelder was giving an “professional” opinion on a topic that she was not qualified to speak on.
