But are they justified?
The real question here is, what about the ice cream truck?
WTactualF?
But for there to be a Firefly revival, it sounds like Tudyk would be expecting Whedon to be a part of it. “I’d like to… personally, would love to read some more Joss Whedon or watch some more Joss Whedon. That’s my own personal experience with Joss. I get my mind… he just blows my mind. A very smart, caring man.”
While noting that she has never met Whedon personally, Sackhoff responded by saying that “it’s interesting to hear that from you because it’s not the normal opinion these days,” referencing the fallout from the allegations against Whedon. “You can only speak to your experience, and so my experience was great, and a lot of people’s experiences were great when we made ‘Firefly,’ which we, as far as we’ve all discussed, we all had a good time,” Tudyk responded. “That was all being done at the same time as ‘Angel’ and at the same time as ‘Buffy.’ So it was the same man. I just think, you know… it’s a tricky subject, you know. It’s a morass when you try to defend somebody against somebody else’s stated experience… when you weren’t there. I can talk to people who were, and I, you know… you find out different perspectives, and it sheds light, but I can’t say stuff. I can’t; it’s not my place to say. So, I have to just sit with my own knowledge and my hope to work with him again.”
When Sackhoff asked if he believed that Whedon was looking to get back into creating new projects, Tudyk responded, “Maybe.” The actor continued, “I mean, it’s been a long time now, so I hope so.” Sackhoff mentioned that Whedon’s “hand was in everything that was successful for so many years,” with Tudyk adding, “Yeah, and so much about… for women, you know? He was always about strong women, and he was always pushing that; that was his thing. I mean, that wasn’t a put-on thing or a business decision. That’s who he is, you know? So it’s all… it’s all wild to see how that… it’s so easy for somebody to go and put something online and say, And I’m not going to say anything else. I’m gonna say this thing and I’m not going to say anything else.” Like, well, wait… the thing you just said is going to do really diff… irreparable harm in a [Tudyk does air quotes] ‘corporate setting’ and there’s no court, you know, to go to. There’s no cancel court."
Oh for fuck’s sake. Dammit, Alan.
Noooo! Not Alan Tudyk too!
As someone on the old place said to me when I described revisiting a beloved film and finding it quite abhorrent (Blade Runner - Harrison Ford sure did play some lovable abusers between that and Indiana Jones) “when you wear rose tinted spectacles red flags are just flags”.
I haven’t actually encountered him for years but I do recall a very forensic article he wrote on massive corporate fraud involving mustering a huge amount of information holding multiple timelines in his head.
Pretty sad.
why do people keep hiring this dipshit…
He’s not funny. All he does is tell mean-spirited, abusive jokes aimed at everyone.
Shame on Sharon Stone.
He should instead do an “anti-woke” Starship Troopers. Finally fulfill Heinlein’s vision…
Is his Wikipedia page vaguely correct?
If so he has one credit this century, and the last years of the previous century are all half assed failed shit.
I remember reading an article of his in the anthology The New Journalism and thinking it was great. I was young but old enough to note that anywhere Tom Wolfe appeared the quality of writing took a nosedive deep into the earth. He’s an hilariously terrible writer. He writes with dictionaries and Gray’s anatomy at his desk to find ways to make himself sound smarter than the reader, to himself at least.
File this under old dickhead shouts at cloud.
Also… was Basic Instinct “woke” in the first place? I guess I was too young to see it when it came out, but all I remember anyone talking about at all was Sharon Stone flashing the cops in that one scene…
Anyway… Showgirls…
No.
In my memory I think I didn’t go to see it because I associated Michael Douglas with misogynistic bollox films. Shit like that was not what I wanted to go to. I hated Michael Douglas. I think I enjoyed hating him until Hugh Grant became the focus of my ire.
Obviously until his heel turn when he became one of everyone’s favourite actors.
Is a particular favourite.
I’ve never seen that either!
My read on Basic was that Sharon Stone was essentially the hero of the piece. Not certain if that makes it woke though. (And I kinda doubt my take was the mass audience’s, but I think it may have been Verhoeven’s.)
I have greatly enjoyed two Eszterhas scripted films, Basic Instinct and Showgirls, but I suspect it was the director who saved them. In fact I’ve imagined Verhoeven giving the Showgirls script a first read, thinking to himself, “What the hell can I do with this shit?” and then thinking, “Wait, I can make it funny!”
