“ Manchin, a wealthy coal tycoon”
“The centrist-moderate vote decides who’s going to be the president of the United States. And when they get here, they don’t govern that way. Neither side does. They go to their respective corners,” Manchin said.
Hopefully someday Democrats are finally going to realize this isn’t the least bit true, and that will be the end of his disgusting brand of social parasitism.
Another immigrant sucking up our benefits. Good luck getting adequate healthcare, sucker!
Get that man a burn kit, stat.
How hard is it to get it through people’s heads that civil rights are not “culture wars”… it’s the most basic thing we should all have.
Do trans people really deserve civil rights though…/s
I don’t know… I just want to know how are we STILL having this fucking conversation in 2024… like, seriously… it’s maddening. Just… protect everyone’s rights and mind your own damn business. It’s just weird how obsessed some are with what’s in other people’s pants. Like… just let people live their lives how they see fit… How is that difficult?
It sucks that so many people seem to think trans people are something new. It’s truly sad how we’ve been effectively erased from history. I saw a thread earlier today about someone watching a Stonewall documentary that failed to even mention trans people. That erasure seems to allow people to give themselves permission to hate us.
This is not the time to talk about civil rights for trans people.
We have to have the debate about whether they should have human rights first.
I wish I were joking, but apparently that’s where we are now.
Me and my BFF were talking about that today at lunch… as long as people have been around and as long as we’ve understood gender, we’ve had trans people… it’s just as natural as anything…
Yeah, it’s enraging. There has been some great work on gender from queer studies stuff… and I love books like this that really highlight how modernity changed our views of gender…
At some point I really should read Foucault’s stuff on sexuality, but I don’t know how much he addresses gender in that… Some people have been doing great work on writing these histories, mostly trans folks themselves. I’m glad people are doing this work, so I can share it with my students when I teach.
