i found Ms. Donegan’s editorial on this to be quite on point.
calling out this stunt of putting very unserious women on a very expensive tourist flight to low earth orbit is not misogynistic, their unserious promotion of themselves as “empowered” women is antifeminist, in itself.

Yeah, I mean, I was thinking that would more than pay off our mortgage, maybe upgrade at least one of our >11 year old cars, get our kitchen floor leveled (and our lights recessed so I can stop almost impaling myself every few weeks) … But yeah, go into space, sure, why not?

I’m most disappointed in Aisha Bowe. She graduated the high school my son currently attends (which the school is touting), earned an aerospace engineering degree (this is seriously heavy physics coursework) and should know better than to get sucked into such “photo ops” by her academic and professional experience alone. She should celebrate how exceptional she has to be as a successful black woman in a white male dominated field, but instead she’s minimizing her successes with this stunt in the penis rocket.

He’s yet another well-off, famous white dude (who, true enough, is Jewish in fact, but still…) who can’t imagine how this would go off the rails as fast as it has. When the systems are built to benefit you, you’re far less likely to think that they will end up like this… It’s yet more evidence for our lack of solid history education that speaks to how systems work and can be turned on people pretty quickly.

I did stare at the statement for at least 15 seconds wondering if he was adverse to it or advocating for it. Does the phrase “… this is crazy stuff that’s happening all over” refer to the arrests or to the people posting condemnation of the administration?
