It is a joke. Danny Sapko is very much a tongue in cheek channel. It’s not really my thing, but he’s definitely not serious. It’s all in good fun.
Yeah, I figured that out when they had bass-off at the end! They had me going, tho!
“anonymous source, who stated the cause was a “lover’s spat” between facility researchers, where one individual poked holes in another’s protective equipment. “That individual has since been fired, the official indicated.” The NIH public affairs office did not respond to a query for more information.”
Meanwhile, actual “pampered, elitist” students don’t have student loans to worry about.
In the 90s, it was Newt Gingrich crying about professional students getting rich off scholarships, which resulted in scholarships being declared taxable income. These people will never be happy until the rest of us get nothing.
(excerpt) “This decision follows identification and documentation of personnel issues involving contract staff that compromised the facility’s safety culture, prompting this research pause.”
The old story of company culture and permanent employees versus non-enculturated contract workers. My first employer placed a very strong emphasis on safety; even our employees who would never have had the chance to be exposed to dangerous processes had to take our in-house safety training classes. Safety incidents there involved several severe electrical shocks and a dismemberment—all involving non-permanent workers, and even though they also had received the same training (including LOTO) elsewhere… so they claimed. Mindset mysteries.
I don’t know if this belongs here, but there’s a whole series of these videos, and I encourage you to go watch all of them, because it’s an entire story. But I’m posting this one now because it contains one of the best examples of “No is a complete sentence” I’ve ever seen.
I managed to pay off my student loans and it was so much stress and work, honestly the loans i had should’ve been forgiven because the specific community college that i attended got shut down over fraud. I’m still really salty about that, but i celebrate other people being able to have their loan debts forgiven. People who get mad at others having their student loans forgiven don’t know how life ruining those debts are.
In my case i still hold out hope that some day i’ll get damn money back for those loans but if i never do i’ve made my peace with it.
Batya Ungar-Sargon is the deputy opinion editor of Newsweek. And a Fuck the Poor classist too.
“Poor people buy their children too many toys” is such a bizarre take. What happened to the classist classics like alcohol, cigarettes and junk food?
Also alleged rich people who always just so happen to validate suburban conservatives’ life choices are not entirely convincing.
“Lukewarm regards.”
I’m gonna use that.
So, she’s basically saying “if these people had more money, they wouldn’t be so poor.” Do these assholes ever listen to themselves?
Way back when, upon graduation, I was given several student-loan coupon-books that I would use to make check payments to help settle my federal loan. Coupon plus check in the mail, that’s how it went before the fed caught up with the internet. So, finally, out here in SoCal, working and with a steady income, I ran out of coupons. I phoned the lender’s loan officer and asked for a few more coupon-books. She: “Don’t hang up! Don’t hang up! I need to put you on hold! Just for a minute! Okay!? Just stay on the line! I’ll be right back!” Me: “Okay, okay. I called you.” My punctuation there is 100% accurate. She was relieved, elated, excited that (IMHO) a borrower was contacting them to pay off a loan. My impression then, as now, was that the feds had problems with borrowers who couldn’t or wouldn’t settle their debts. I felt sorry for her—and proud that I brought her a bit of joy… although I sometimes wonder if loan-repayments were linked to her success on the job.
You are supposed to ape real or imagined rich people who have been proven right by being so rich. Except of course you don’t get any riches of your own. Basking in their glory because you have meaningless details in common will have to do. It seems to be some weird Calvinism by proxy thing.
Vicarious enjoyment of someone else actually living the American Dream is a major part of the American Dream.
