To Alcohol! The Cause of, and Solution to, All of Life's Problems

Might as well toss this in here. I made some of this for How to Drink’s Hot Buttered Rum recipe.

This stuff’s delicious, and I say that as not much of a rum drinker. I didn’t go as dark on the butter browning as he does in the video, but got it solidly browned. The result, to me, took out most of the sharp edges of the rum’s smell and flavor and replaced it with the aroma of brown sugar. Adding some sugar, cinnamon, and hot water makes a wonderful cold-weather drink. I highly recommend sacrificing a bottle to it if it sounds at all interesting.

I haven’t tried the “normal” hot buttered rum recipe, but as an option that doesn’t involve drinking melted butter, it’s very nice. Also, not very time consuming, except for the waiting for the butter to brown (I don’t do that often, so I probably took longer than needed just out of caution).

This is a little adjacent to the actual substance of the conversation, but I had a co-worker who would fall asleep at his desk or in meetings for short periods of time. It was annoying to me - for a time he worked right next to me.

I was let go from the company and then I learned about a year later the guy was in the hospital and very sick. The little annoying naps? They were a symptom of a rare and uncurable blood disorder.

He had been a portly man, but at his funeral a short time later, his corpse was so gaunt he was nearly unrecognizable to me.

We’re going to have to be up late: the drain and spin is off its game on the laundry, so the dryer will take forever.

You know what that means!
