Might as well toss this in here. I made some of this for How to Drink’s Hot Buttered Rum recipe.
This stuff’s delicious, and I say that as not much of a rum drinker. I didn’t go as dark on the butter browning as he does in the video, but got it solidly browned. The result, to me, took out most of the sharp edges of the rum’s smell and flavor and replaced it with the aroma of brown sugar. Adding some sugar, cinnamon, and hot water makes a wonderful cold-weather drink. I highly recommend sacrificing a bottle to it if it sounds at all interesting.
I haven’t tried the “normal” hot buttered rum recipe, but as an option that doesn’t involve drinking melted butter, it’s very nice. Also, not very time consuming, except for the waiting for the butter to brown (I don’t do that often, so I probably took longer than needed just out of caution).
