We have a snake, and yes, we often pronounce it as ‘snek’, but we know we’re being funny when we do that. Another decade or two, and they might not know which is the real pronunciation and which is the meme.
This is my favorite variation:
That’s a spectacular view. It looks like our sci-fi future to me.
Is that on the left the famous magnifier building that melts cars and burns people?
Sniff sniff. “Do you smell Jaguar?”
yesterday:
a bit of sightseeing around Dragon Con after work. These guys’ masks were super realistic, but I couldn’t get a shot because they were dicking around with this cool-looking-but-flimsy horse skeleton on wheels getting it to cross the street. god knows what fandom thing they’re cosplaying; maybe someone here knows?
today:
it’s not every day the Goodyear Blimp is directly over one’s house
Appear to be White Walkers to my eye.
… if you say so
I have always loved blimps. When I lived in Atlanta, 4 came to town at the same time for the Olympics. Dream come true.
White walkers from Game of Thrones… the one guy looks like he’s dressed up as the Night King specifically.
Thank you!!! Made my day new life goal: RIDE in the MotherFuckin Goodyear Blimp!!!
Personally I’d really love to cross the Atlantic in a zeppelin. Yeah, it would take two days and be expensive, but as part of the trip itself it would be amazing, and much more pleasant than being stuffed in economy class for eight hours.
My grandfather could remember the zeppelins flying over the Netherlands on their way to and from America. He and his friends would always stop to watch.
I wonder how that would compare to say, a trip on a cargo ship? Huge berths, but then there’s motion sickness. I wonder if there’s motion sickness on a dirigible?
The old reports from the 1920s said no, and they were comparing it to passenger ships of the time.
Not sure what happens during a storm. I think they mostly steer clear of them – even easier to do today with weather radar and better reports.
Unfortunately, the speed limitations of airships make them much less able to dodge around storms compared to modern aircraft. When you go through the history of the US Navy’s airships, “crashed into the sea during a storm” is a recurring theme.
(military history, rather less cheerful than the Goodyear vid)
The modern airships (not the blimps, the ones what look like an airplane and the Goodyear blimp head a baby) might be able to handle storms better.
Mostly I just want to have headspace and leg room crossing the Atlantic. If I can get some 1920s aesthetics going at the same time, that’s even better.
May I suggest
plus Dramamine?
The giant nokia.
Agreed.
