Stop by the farmer’s market today - a dozen organic eggs were only 3.89.
wow!
support those local growers!
we have had people on our dead end street down here chasing the street chickens with long fishing nets! trying to capture some hens. i asked one kid how many he had caught in 3 days of trying…
“zero”, says he.
i laughed.
Checking my local corner store’s prices…
Ten free-range eggs for 2.35 €, which converts to $2.96 per dozen.
At my food co-op in Minneapolis, this morning:
1 dozen Large, organic eggs from free-range chickens, from a local producer, for $4.79
There were plenty of cartons of various-sized eggs from that farm. But some other egg brands just had empty shelves…
Checked yesterday, and they’re up to $4.99 with no limit. Not bad at all.
Where I am they range from 33¢ to 75¢ per egg. $3.99 - $9.19 per dozen. Depending whether you get them at Price Chopper (most expensive), Wal-Mart (most varieties and most around 50¢/egg or $6/dozen), or Hannaford (cheapest for the Nature’s Promise Cage Free Large Brown at $3.99-$4.09).
It is a little strange to see that much variation in price in the same place, and also at one of them the store brand ‘standard’ eggs costing twice as much as the branded cage-free that used to cost more.

We complain about egg prices but can’t stop buying $1,000 smartphones
I don’t read WaPo, so I’m not sure who “we” is supposed to be, but I never started buying $1,000 smartphones. Maybe the target audience is just Bezos.
Eggs are the new avocado toast?
At the rate we’re going, the next headline will be, “People keep complaining they can’t afford a pound of rice and beans, but live in buildings that cost much more than $200.”
And then “people keep whinging about the price of clean water and a sanitation system, but drive a car that costs $25000.”
My prediction is that the price of water and sanitation will be relatively flat due to complete deregulation.
Holy crap, Gaston is screwed!
Oh no, it’ll go way up due to privatization and deregulation!
Perhaps. I think we can at least agree that the water won’t be clean anymore.
Only for the rich.
9 days later, eggs are $8.50 a dozen here in the KC area. That’s a $2.50 jump in less than 2 weeks.
