Update:
He may not have started it, but at this point in time I’m entirely comfortable directly blaming Trump for the current situation.
Aldi Gold Hen white conventional eggs
$5.97/doz, limit 2
Up $0.51 in 4 days
Publix in Key Largo holding steady at $6.83/ doz grade A large.
street chickens still hiding nests in the neighbor’s yard.
kids trying to capture street chickens with fishing nets still unsuccessful at zero.
Today at a Lidl (similar to Aldi, & ostensibly inexpensive):

Here are the organic &/or free range eggs (like what Whole Foods sells, but the shelves there have been empty, last couple of times I’ve looked).
People don’t want to buy as many eggs when they cost this much. And a lot of people bought a bunch of eggs when prices made the last jump, fearing where the ceiling will be, and have been hoarding them ever since. PSA: older eggs make the best hard-boiled eggs. Very easy to peel.
note that this does not refer to the street chickens!
FTA:
“We’re not going to have chickens roaming around the streets.”
$6.83 for eggs in our nearby Orlando Publix, $10.79 for pasture raised, $10.99 for organic. Getting close to $1/egg for those. Of course we live right on the outskirts of the Disney bubble so there’s a bit of Tourist-flation going on there.
Availability of the “who cares about the birds?” basic ones has been okay, free range and better have been pretty hit or miss. We usually stick to pasture raised if we can get them and it took a few days of stopping by the store to catch any actually in stock.
The south Orlando Whole Foods on the other hand has been completely out of eggs the last 3 times I went!
D bought a dozen eggs for $3.89 on Feb 15th, at a Kroger in a N Detroit suburb. They were Kroger’s own brand Simple Truth. Looks like they weren’t on sale.
.
Current price of Cadbury creme eggs locally:
$12.97 per dozen at Walmart
$13.17 per dozen at Price Chopper
$14.07 per dozen at Hannaford
Like they are for Halloween, at least in this cute internet tale:
They are really varying here. Local FL eggs were about $5.50, Aldi has them for around $5.50, but then the more premium brands are going up to $12/dozen.
Costco North Alabama still holding at $8.49 ($4.25/doz) for 2 dozen organic eggs, limit 3.
So the egg prices here seem highly variable by store. Price Chopper is like $8.50 a dozen. Hy-Vee is still under $6. Also, someone stickered the price sign in my local Hy-Vee.
w00t!
i bought a handful of those stickers to do just that sort of creative vandalism.
i will post some pix on this thread.
still haven’t made it to Waffle House (i really don’t like WH!) but a promise is a promise.
stay tuned!
I posted that two weeks ago, and the price had held steady, until today they were $6.29 (for a dozen large free-range organic, from the same farm).
The supply situation appeared to be about the same, just looking at what was on the shelves…of course I don’t know what’s happening on the back end…(no, that was not meant to be a pun!)
$8.69 for 18 brown eggs at Costco in Ann Arbor, Michigan yesterday. This is actually the same as last week.
In other news, 4 avocados set us back more than $11 at Meijer yesterday.
