Ok, preview doesn’t work. A young trans woman from Illinois, visiting relatives in Florida, wrote a letter to all Florida state legislators letting them know she was coming to the state house to violate Florida’s anti-trans bathroom law, and then she followed through, knowing she would be arrested.

They mentioned this yesterday on the local news… good on the Democrats for doing this. I hope that the bill gets challenged in the courts and overturned. This is just cruel and stupid - they’re just hurting 5 people for no reason.

I find it utterly fascinating how trans women can tell researchers, to their faces, that they’ve turned to sex work because no other work is available to them and then the researcher can just turn around and say “I think they do it because they like it.”

There was also a part in there the researchers clearly misunderstood. It said that many of the women did it to “affirm their femininity” or something like that. But if you read closer, it’s clear what that meant was “to afford HRT and other gender affirming health care.” It’s still about money and not being able to find other work, in other words. Not because getting fucked makes them feel more feminine. Jesus fucking Christ these asshole.
ETA: Just to make it clear . . .if it were just about getting fucked, that’s the easy part. A lot of men will fuck just about anyone. If that’s all “affirming their femininity” were about, they wouldn’t need to turn to sex work. And it just now struck me, that this is also just plain old misogyny. Women just exist for men to fuck, so of course “affirming their femininity” means getting fucked, not affording medical treatment.

My thoughts were, “Wow, that Sam Rockwell is a good actor. He can make anything sound believable.” I hope he’s not a transphobe.
What all this boils down to is, in short, boy, those Republicans are obsessed with some really weird thoughts.
