Transphobic events

Hey - me too!

But we’d both be arrested. And should be.

You’re never an adult if you’re trans.

Sadly, this is a global phenomenon and needs to be recognized as such. US and UK assholery may be in the headlines (such as they are) but this shit seems to be flying pretty much everywhere. I hate every bit of it.

Zero surprise, but it’s still an indication of how bad things are.

In addition, this is another attack on Maori culture, right? Like many cultures, they have a much more nuanced understanding of gender

I’m not sure Winston Peters has thought it through to that degree. His father is Maori, but Winston is not a deep thinker about anything. He’s been a straight-up populist his entire political career, saying whatever it takes to get his name in the news.

If it came from the current NZ PM, I’d assume it was another attack on Maori culture.

Why does this feel like we’re about to get the Nürnberg laws for trans people?

An influential “Gender Critical” activist was recently convicted of years of child abuse, including sexual and violent abuse, and calling children slurs for trans people

She is still followed on Twitter by the majority of other influential GCs

Purposely didn’t onebox the included article link. It included descriptions that probably shouldn’t show by default.

Is she going to be put in a men’s prison? She is clearly the kind of person who would be a threat to other women.

/S, because I don’t believe in cruel and unusual punishments.

Huh, would that be this Nichola Murray?

(Warning: Brendan O’Neill, who calls himself a “Marxist Libertarian” which, given that he writes for the Spectator, the Daily Telegraph, and The Australian, means he almost certainly doesn’t know what either of those words actually mean.)

The Spiked and Edinburgh Live article both say she’s the head of Brodie’s Trust, so yep, same person.

That’s just Spiked and its tortured political history showing up. It started off as a magazine called Living Marxism, published by a weird Trotskyist party who were relentlessly contrarian about everything, and ended up getting sued out of existence after accusing a major news programme in the UK of making up war crimes in the former Yugoslavia. Their writers reformed as Spiked, and kept it up with the anti-everything takes, gradually morphing into a hard-right “libertarian” stance.

They would have faded into absolute irrelevance by now, were it not for their habit of being useful idiots for every right-wing crank cause that comes along.

To be fair, while I know what both of those words mean individually, I haven’t got the faintest clue what they mean together. I was going to say it’d be like someone calling themselves a Democratic Fascist, but that actually seems like a barely possible ideology. Marxist Libertarian? I can’t even imagine how that would work.

To be fair, the term libertarian used to be more widely used on the left than the right. Like Emma goldman used to call herself a libertarian. I think it used just be a debate over the role of the state and if you can ever have a non-coercive state. So, it can fit along those lines. But the far right hijacked the term libertarian to pretend like they care about something outside of their ability to get rich and lord it over the rest of us losers.
