The University of Pennsylvania violated federal civil rights law by allowing transgender swimmer Lia Thomas to compete on its women’s team during the 2021-22 season and use the female facilities, the U.S. Department of Education said Monday.
The department has ordered Penn to “restore to all female athletes all individual athletic records, titles, honors, awards or similar recognition for Division I swimming competitions misappropriated by male athletes” or risk the loss of federal funding.
I’ve run into far more transphobia among gay men than I have lesbians. Not that I’ve run into a lot, but I haven’t personally run into it at all among the queer cis women I know. And I know a lot.

NEWS: DOJ is now formally refusing to acknowledge the existence of transgender people in its filings — to the extent of misrepresenting other parties’ filings.
This goes further even than DOJ did last week in referring to people as “trans-identifying individuals” in a Supreme Court filing.

The Supreme Court’s ruling on the 16 April means that we will be changing our policy. Transgender women will no longer be able to play in women’s football in England, and this policy will be implemented from 1 June 2025.
