WFTDA are creating a new “Open” gender division separate from the women’s division and are specifically banning teams from pushing any trans person into Open on the basis of local laws against including trans women in women’s teams.

As it should be. Love derby

That’s despairing. And useful.

Bluesky ‘Trust and Safety’ doing the exact opposite. I’ve been using this list since it’s been available and it is a key part of keeping my skyline clean and fresh and TERF free.

They’ve been targeting a number of these sorts of lists (racism, ableism, anti-native) etc lately and I wonder if all the ‘Bluesky is a Librul Echo Chamber’ news stories are making them think their best option for growth is to serve up their minority communities to bigots…

Or, and this is a hypothesis not yet worth calling a theory, all social media eventually goes neonazi because the founders believe in absolute free speech and that’s what unfettered free speech inherently devolves to. There have to be consequences to hate speech. Expecting the community to self-correct is naive at best.

I don’t think this is anything to do with free speech. It’s an attempt to force us to interact with the people that hate us. Right now, they can say what they want and I don’t have to read it cause I subscribe to the blocklist. By removing the list, they’re exposing minorities that have taken explicit steps to hide from that kind of speech. This is how they have said that we should handle bigotry from the very beginning, and now it’s not good that we are using the tools they gave us.

And why? I really think the stories about Bluesky being an echo chamber have been keeping people away from the site, and the company doesn’t like that. So they’ve begun attacking the tools we’re using to protect ourselves that the bigots don’t like cause they prevent them from getting access.

I’m tired of having to find a new home constantly. I just want a place online I can interact with my community without all the formality and hassle of a discord server or whatever. Is that too much to ask?

Freedom of association is an integral part of both freedom of speech and assembly.

Absolutely not. And you shouldn’t have to. You shouldn’t have to hide. You shouldn’t have to edit yourself. I don’t want to see hate speech, either, even when it’s not directed at me. Because it’s directed at people I care about, and it’s ugly and has no place in a civil society.

I just think that social media companies are never going to self police for hate speech. More often, they end up punishing the reaction to hate speech. We need stronger regulation of hate speech and make sure it includes social media.

Make Bigots Afraid Again.

We really can’t have nice things, can we?

It’s an unfair competitive advantage. If trans people are going to stop fires, then there’s an obligation to apologize to the fires, and start more. /s

The EHRC is meant to protect everyone’s rights. But internal documents reveal a different story: repeated meetings with anti-trans lobbyists, legal bias, and secret coordination. We filed the FOI. Here’s what we found.

I just want to ask people like that, why is it important?

Why does someone need to know either a person’s current gender, or sex assigned at birth, unless it’s specifically to be used to discriminate against them in some way? Oh wait, the question answers itself.
