Blatant Political policing- to any criticism

Are they still investigating Bob Vylan, tho?

Yes. And Bob Vylan don’t have the name recognition, film and all that to back them up.

They need our support.

Hopefully Kneecap will back them up as well.

They have been associated with Kneecap since before this Glastonbury thing. There is also an artists’ solidarity group on Palestine in Britain. I hope that the lawyers that worked for Kneecap will now do so for the Bobs.

I hope so, too!

ETA Also… the article answered me question…

Police said their enquiries into pop-punk duo Bob Vylan continue.

or, to use a loaded term, ethnically cleansed.

Um… is it ā€œloadedā€ if it’s accurate?

Also, @robmck - you’ve posted about this story, but I noticed something in this article, that both Romanian and Roma seem to be used interchangably. Are these Romani people but from Romania? Or are they Romanians and the term Roma is being used as a means of further stigmatizing them…? I’m getting the sense from the article, it was specifically Roma folks who were the most targeted here…

ā€œNo need to differentiate, they’re all nasty Johnny foreigners!ā€

I think the locals use either out of ignorance. The people who did the assault were Romanian and, I believe, Romani. Though you can’t get official confirmation.

But as the rioting and pogrom spiralled it was aimed generally at foreign born people and their families. It definitely was not only aimed at Romani at the time, whatever people may say about it now.

Okay, thanks for clarification.

I should say I don’t have personal knowledge. I haven’t been in Ballymena in a long time and I can’t see me making the detour any time soon.

Yeah, it doesn’t seem very friendly now, does it?

I think there might be a story upthread about this, but here is more on it:

The coppers claimed that it was legal in print, but not at a demonstration….

I think the coppers were talking through their bumgholes, most particularly because this was not a PA demonstration. They are just deciding to criminalise shit they feel like.

Why would we need a new left wing party?

I don’t know why it isn’t embedding.

In the New Yorker profile of Curtis Yarvin, ideological lodestar of Trump, Stephen Miller and the ascendant American technofascist right, we learn that he’s been spending time with Blue Labour peer Maurice Glasman, who Starmer’s current right-wing genuflections are aimed to please. So that’s nice.

Ugh… yeah, for sure… I think labor might need to be burned right the fuck down.

Do you think that a leftist party led by Corbyn could have legs?

Also, maybe those film makers just need to let him do his racist rambles and make that into a film. That’s your film guys, that he’s a boring racist with dumb ideas! This isn’t hard! Maybe I should go back to school to make documentaries.

This might be my cynicism talking, but I don’t know. The media are going to be targeting them the second they get any kind of momentum, although the media’s current tactics of philosemitism and transphobia may end up pushing more supporters their way.

On the other hand, I can see the TERs trying to hijack this party as well, although Corbyn and Sultana wil probably try to shut that kind of hate down immediately.

I’m sorry I’m not more positive, but after the last ten years it’s hard.
