Yeah. One of the more effective scams of capitalism is how it helps to convince “salaried” people that they don’t have class-based interests in common with people who earn an hourly “wage.”

This is the first time I’d been exposed to the idea that “salary” and “wage” aren’t synonyms, honestly.

Speaking from personal experience, if you are paid an hourly wage you get time and half for the overtime hours you work, so the company goes out of its way to avoid working you overtime. If you are salaried, you don’t get paid time and a half for overtime hours, so overtime work is mandatory.

I can only speak to the company I work at, but there salaried people can get overtime up until a certain (pretty high) salary point. I don’t think we’ve got many hourly wage workers, though.

Reminds me of the story (probably not true, but you never know) of a shop guy having cut off his finger on a table saw, going back later on showing his boss how the accident happened and cutting off another finger in the process.
