During his initial court appearance on Thursday, Copeland came ready for another fight, this time with several lawyers and court officials after he boldly invited some of his friends—and his mother—to join the Zoom. Magistrate Judge Robin Meriweather ended up kicking out one of his friends after they chose an “expletive” as their username.
Soon after, Copeland began to shout, telling those in the virtual hearing, “I am in my car, I have nothing to hide.”
After someone asked a court clerk to mute Copeland, the alleged rioter responded: “You are evil!” Refusing to comply with Meriweather’s order to remain silent during the hearing, Copeland interrupted to ask about his conditions, asking, “at what point am I a free individual versus a pre-trial confinement individual?”
“Is any of this negotiable? I used to be a free man…until you locked me up,” Copeland said, before finally hushing up.

Ah, now that I could believe. I saw the “70%” and just assumed it was the usual outrage over tax rate ideas.
Of course, alimony and child support aren’t exactly “the government taking my money”, but then, there’s a reason this is “the dumbest thing”.

Victim of a 4 vs 1 assault.
Last time I got assaulted 4:1, I was young and agile, and could easily dodge and run. (One of the guys tried a ridiculous flying jump-kick at me and I dodged it so he went down hard on the pavement and hurt himself. I got away just fine.)
I’m not a fan of guns, but these days I couldn’t so easily dodge and run. And while I generally insist on nothing more than sticks (and they’re everywhere), a parking lot is one place where I wouldn’t have one handy. A knife well-wielded could suffice. But 4 vs 1 it would not carry the same intimidation weight as a gun.
Still I’m not ready to concede that a gun would be a good solution. But I can see how some would see it, if they’re not able to deal with a 4:1 situation otherwise.
Baseball cards does seem a stupid thing for it to come to that though.

I think the thing a lot of people miss in that calculation is, one of the four could also just as easily have a gun. And now the potential consequences could be so much worse than… losing a pack of trading cards.

Yeah, I go after the Group of Pissants, but…I wish we could get through to more of them. I wish they would accept honest and sincere compassion.
