I have been graced with two bee stories— not much in and of themselves though. Still.
A co-worker’s 9-year old niece told us of her then very recent nasty encounter with a swarm of bees. I inquired about the number of times she had been stung by them. She, squinting, turned her head sideways, looked up at the sky for about 20 seconds or so, then said, “Ten.” My guess is that she was not recalling the number of times but counting each sting from memory. Then she lifted up her T-shirt to show me a couple of sting sites on her belly.
Driving in my car one day I noticed a bee attached to my headliner. I can’t say I panicked, but I was concerned that the bee would start buzzing about and distract me. Once home and stopped, I studied the bee. It didn’t move at all. Dead? I grabbed a sheet of paper, held it underneath the bee and prodded it with a corner of the sheet. Plop! Dead. I dropped it into our bushes. Back to Nature. I later found out that when bees are near to death, they seek out secluded locations for their final moments. That gave me a feeling of being graced by the bee’s decision.

The other cats let him in to use their “toilet”. The neighborly thing to do.

A bee got into the basement when I was sitting there innocently working on a model. It was near the ceiling, so I got a magazine and tried to swat it. It led me on a merry chase till I ran into my rolling chair, reached out to the bench to stop falling, which I did anyway, and I knocked lots of stuff onto the floor. Including twelve jars of hobby paints.
The good news is that none of the jars broke. But it was one of like a dozen falls I’ve had over the last 15 years, all of which due to not looking where I was going.
