I know it probably wouldn’t have been prudent, but I would have loved to hear the response to “I don’t know whether to call you professor or comrade.” be “I’m not sure whether to call you senator or fascist.”
How is it that, ~70 years after McCarthyism, “communist” is still seen as a cheat code for smearing anyone running for public office?

Because it’s been pounded into the heads of people ever since they were kids. Remember, there are people serving in government who were alive when McCarthyism was at its height; can you imagine what that Kennedy’s childhood was like to have him be the way he is now?

It looks to me like he’s been given a pass on that. The feds sure aren’t doing much. I suppose they may not have much good evidence, other than his “buddy” ratting him out. But that’s not enough. Rumor is that the girl won’t cooperate. And he is a sitting Congressman. If they do go after him, they’d better not miss.

There’s probably a company that will come out and take your Xmas-n-Guns photo in your home, including rented guns (for the best profitability, of course) so that rich-enough GQPers can publicly display their Trump Loyalty Test™ and make sure to get marked on the Nice List. Photog and assistant even pose the people so nobody gets bent about trigger discipline or whatever.
Of course, I know that there are people who own very many guns, including the ones that only make real sense in a war zone. I just think that not all of them are true gun nuts, just politicians who need to be seen that way.

Years ago I guy I worked with thought of a business plan for sending prayers to heaven. For $50 or so, a person would send the prayer, and he would message it to the sky by Morse code with a laser pointer. But he felt it would be fraud, because he’s an atheist, and never did.
