Non-American lives have zero value in mainstream American discourse. The murder of millions is a forgivable faux-pas.
I was a kid when I learned this.
There was a plane crash or something, and the news didn’t mention how many people lost their lives, only the number of Americans who died. I asked my mother about it, and she gave the early 80s, kid version of “white supremacy and colonialism continue to fuck up the world.”
There was also something about US people usurping the word American from all the other people on two continents called America, and how it’s wrong, but it’s the way it is.
It’s taken an extreme amount of bullshit to cast that positive light on W, and frankly the rehabilitation of war criminals pisses me off.
