One of my neurologists warned me to avoid turn signals, so a lot of the time I cross away from the crosswalks. Also, many are placed without considering pedestrian safety. Either way, crosswalks can be deathtraps, and staying out of deathtraps should not be a death sentence.

Have you seen that netflix series, Black Earth Rising? The opening scene has a character who is a prosecutor, who works at the ICC taking questions that addresses just that:
