The Sydney Mardi Gras began as a commemoration of the Stonewall uprising.

The first one was violently broken up by police; my kung-fu instructor had her name and address printed on the front page of the Sydney Morning Herald after she was arrested, and lost her job because of it.

If you’re trying to stop an epidemic, then everyone benefits from everyone else’s health. But our system seems to be based on the idea that there’s only so much to go around, and everyone loses from anyone else’s health.
