Is Newsweek aimed at rural folks, though? They used to be the liberal counterpart to Time.

Their current ownership is hard to predict, politically; Christian Conservative, but Asian and a touch cultish.

This Twitter thread:

…and this:

…and assorted other Democratic campaigns recently.

Those ads are pitched to a mixture of American patriotism and liberal feminist identity politics, but they tell you very little about what the candidate actually stands for. The little policy content you see is mostly focused on vague opposition to Trump rather than any positive policy agenda.

I know nothing about the policies of either of those candidates. I’m sure they’re fine people, and they may turn out to be great politicians. But do y’all get what this has in common with the failures of the Clinton campaign?

This is the substance of the legitimate left critique of identity politics: an excessive focus on symbolism and representation camouflages policy.

Why do communists always drink herbal tea?

Because proper tea is theft.
