Something that confuses me:
How are anti-immigrant and anti-refugee politics “libertarian”?
There are a lot of complex problems, such as how to ensure everyone can get health care. This is a simple problem: whether to punish people for crossing from one ruling group’s turf to another.
I think it’d be more accurate to call them extreme authoritarian.
Not just them… this came out this week…
Oh! Just double posted this… sorry! But mine had a spiffy Titus gif to go with it (and commentary from The Root).
It probably isn’t, but I think the term “libertarian” has been embraced by the hard right as an excuse for their racism, homophobia, transphobia, classism, and misogyny, in that they can just say they don’t believe in government intervention in any aspects of the “private” sphere… most especially any sorts of government regulation on both corporations and any laws meant to readdress any form of inequality.
That is actually 100% accurate. They are fascists masquerading as freedom loving people. I just keep waiting for our reichstag moment here…
There’s a scene in The Dancer Upstairs, where the army arrives to restore order, and ends up demonstrating that they don’t have the competence to direct traffic, much less handle a criminal investigation.
A strange movie.
Happy Angela Davis day.
With all of this dual-power serve-the-people stuff that the DSA etc are doing…y’all get that there’s no reason why the Democratic Party couldn’t have been doing that already?
They have the money, they have the organisation, they have enough people. There could be Democratic Party affiliated community health clinics, soup kitchens, free libraries, weekend schools, etc etc.
But there aren’t and there won’t be. Because the money behind the party does not actually care about ordinary people, and they do not desire a mobilised and activist grassroots base.
- Completely unsurprising byline here. Throwing petrol on the Dem Party fires is perfectly in character for Maggie.
TBF, when I say things like I want to see Mueller come up with the dirt for state-level RICO charges against Trump, it isn’t about “saving America”. It’s the delicious irony of seeing that family’s assests stripmined into the possession of the state.
I am not normally in favour of forfeiture due to the abuse factor, but I think I could make an exception or two.
That’s how i lull myself to sleep at night anymore.
