She offers a room in her basement, meals and $5 an hour. (Sponsors under this program would be exempt from paying minimum wage.)

WTF?

According to our calculations, a typical family of four could boost its income by $10,000 to 20,000 by hosting migrants. The reason is that migrants to the United States usually increase their wages many times, allowing them to pay as much as $6,000 to hosts for sponsorships (and our average family could sponsor up to four visas, one for each member).

WTF?!

I could have tried to quote the worst part, but it’s all the worst part.

Is this perchance just a modest proposal?

It should be, huh? But rather, it goes with their book:

Radical in upending the American centrist position of letting markets do nearly everything, with the unconventional idea of letting them do absolutely everything. Like privately importing people into the country to work, or improving on democracy by allowing some people more influence than others. It’ll be great! These aren’t historical disasters like slavery and plutocracy, they’re bold new ideas!

It also mentions Posner’s other books, one apparently about how we ought to replace human rights laws with economic measures, and one apparently about how efforts to address climate change must set aside wealth redistribution and reparations.

So yes, this is all a joke, but the authors aren’t the ones making it. They are part of the inane comedy we are stuck inside.

AFAIAA, Politico is a CorpDem aligned outfit. This may be the Dem establishment running trial balloons to test how hard they can sell out the immigrant community.

Speaking of tweets that don’t age well:

I’m curious how “I don’t want to kill someone, but I’ll watch it and be happy about it” becomes a fairly common moral high ground people take.

Elon Musk is talking about population implosion, the concern which comes from two places:

  1. The elite losing their cattle to work for their lifestyle
  2. Less white people

Not surprisingly it’s a hot topic with the right, and if often accompanied with “this is why women shouldn’t work,” “this is why abortion is bad,” or “this is how our morality has eroded (to immigrants)”
