{After some time to cool off, I’ve decided my post was needlessly antagonistic, and I’m deleting the temper tantum.
For the sake of others reading later, so they’ll understand the discussion: I tend to take criticism of Detroit personally, as I was born in the city and have lived my whole life here. While we have at times had epic levels of mismanagement in city government, I do feel it’s an oversimplification to link it to the Democratic party. There are many factors outside city leadership that contributed to Detroit’s decline. (There’s been a huge reliance on manufacturing jobs in general and auto industry work in particular in the regional economy, for instance. Fluctuations in those industries did impact the tax base and therefore city finances, et cetera…) I also pointed out gains made under recent Democratic mayors.
As @Wanderfound pointed out, the point that the GOP is not solely responsible for the mess we’re in is a valid one. Though I still don’t think that was made fully clear in the OP, I acknowledge that Twitter isn’t a platform that gives room for nuance… and I’ll admit my own biases on perceived Detroit-bashing. I appreciate the irritation, but I suspect her point was more intended to be “don’t think that this is just a GOP-created problem”.

I don’t disagree with the notion that problems both local and national aren’t “just a GOP-created problem.” I do disagree with her phrasing. Over-simplification isn’t the best way to win friends and influence people. Though I’ll admit, I can be touchy about my hometown, so that’s a factor too. 
I do hope the lady and her kids will be okay. That’s gotta be a scary picture for both students and parents to see, especially right after a shooting.
