Greenwald is laying it on more than a bit thick. The article said several prominent pro-Russian antisemites writing for russia-insider (literally writing an article blaming the Jews for anti-Putin sentiment) regularly have their message filtered through reputable Western media, and most directly through the ACEWA which actively works to deny the easily proven antisemitism through russia-insider. The point is to show how Western facing antisemitism trickles through media connections, conluding:
Pro-Putin networks like RT and Sputnik, which have played host to far-right commentators like Dugin, Richard Spencer and German neo-Eurasianist Manuel Ochsenreiter serve as vehicles for far-right ideologies laundered into US news and commentary sites under the auspices of geopolitical commentary. Unfortunately, the Left has not launched a serious effort to disconnect from collaborations with far-right groups in the context of networks that support and are often supported by Putin’s Russia. This situation has caused influential bodies like the ACEWA to facilitate the growth of transnational, far-right politics and, more specifically, the fascist neo-Eurasianist movement.
It didn’t accuse The Nation of being antisemitic, it didn’t accuse the ACEWA of being antisemitic, and it didn’t accuse those authors of being antisemitic - just that they freely associate with antisemites as a part of ACEWA and that ACEWA denies the obvious antisemitism of some of its members. That’s not a bad message.
Mind you, the article is written terribly and leans too hard on Russia being an important part when the only importance is that it’s Western-facing Russian media that is celebrated by the alt-right and European white supremacy movements.
Usual disclaimer: Brett’s a communist, I’m not. Ideologically, I’m somewhere between these two.
