Fits with the “rebranding” in the above post, not to mention the both sides shit (the post being ripped apart, not the epic tweetstorm history lesson)
Are BLM and the DSA at all visible on campus?
I get the feeling that BLM are deliberately keeping a low profile for now [1]. They know that their involvement will be used as rocket fuel for fascist radicalisation. Right wing media has been painting them as terrorists for a long time now.
[1] But I hope that they’re working flat-out on community self defence preparations.
In paranoid conspiracist mode, which increasingly seems to be what is required:
I suspect that the Trumpists are deliberately dribbling out information on the Russia scandal in order to sustain Liberal hopes of a judicial resolution. So long as they keep it up, the Liberals will not act.
Remember Masha’s Rule 3.
Has Masha been wrong about anything else?
I just realised that I didn’t read this post properly.
Yeah, you’re right, and that’s a factor I hadn’t considered. The migration north began before the war.
BLM certainly is certainly here and we have a progressive student alliance and an antifa group that has some of their members on campus. DSA, not so much. The marches we’ve had are around campus, generally speaking (our tiny little occupy camp was in Wooddruff park until it was shut down (basically on one side of campus and it is also across from Rep. Lewis’ building). My experience has been that many of our kids just don’t have time. Several students this semester are struggling to make sure they can afford to go to school and are taking a full load and have full time jobs. I’d guess there is a higher level of involvementn among graduate students in the humanities, but even there, many have full time jobs alongside a heavier teaching load than most universities. In general, I see plenty of anti-fascists and progressive flyers around campus, so they are here. The student body is huge, though, so it seems like a drop in the bucket, really.
I agree with what you said about BLM. I don’t blame them. They’ve been demonized and it can be really dangerous.
i don’t know if this is sufficiently political for this thread but on my way home from work there was a border enforcement convoy. 10 vehicles with license plates from about 6 states. they had 5 one ton pickup trucks pulling variously two 500 gallon gasoline tanks, a 500 gallon diesel tank, a 6 seat atv, and a huge propane tank. there was also a ryder 24-32 ft truck, and several large suvs. two of the suvs were the lead cars and the whole convoy was traveling down the center of 3 lanes of interstate headed south as if to houston. the lead cars would tailgate anyone ahead of them and then swerve into other lanes right in front of traffic if the tailgatee didn’t get out of the way. twice i saw the car they pulled in front of hit their brakes and swerve to avoid a collision. just because of my curiosity i paced them for a while to see how fast they were going–90 mph. it was the worst crazy i’ve seen on an interstate since i watched the second “matrix” movie.

Anyone got access to a PDF?
More and more, it’s The Sheep Look Up.
Ordinary people harmed by the collaboration of corporate fraud and state corruption is a continuing theme of the book. One character is radicalised when their unborn child is killed by a cheap faulty microwave oven.
There’s still a chance of this, though:
The sit-in described here could become the seed of something bigger.
Who controls the DC cops? How fascist are they?
