She always finds something stupid and memeable to say in a very cogent point. I mean saying that the overton window has narrowed to an extreme is accurate, and saying it is in the interest of the media that created it is also accurate, and saying the shrinking of the overton window is in the disinterest of Americans is also accurate.
Making a vague “both sides” comment is horseshit pandering to the sliver of GOP voters that are slightly uncomfortable with the authoritarian state of their own creation.
Failing to acknowledge the role of herself and the Democrats in narrowing and shifting that Overton window was rather irritating, too. Particularly when she then went on to advocate continuing to do that.
Bernie’s healthcare push provides some hope for at least some of the Dems. The old leadership needs to be dumped entirely, though. No Clinton, no Pelosi, no Schumer.
Schumer might be the only one I disagree with since he supports the progressive movement in the party. He was behind Ellison being head of the DNC, and spoke strongly against Clinton post election.
Her current relevance is only there because there is such a large media industry supported on the back of talking about Hillary Clinton. She’s old, she’s in mediocre health, she’s retired. And yet anti-Hillary memes have been pumped out with the same intensity as 2016 from the right, and even the left can’t move on from her. I guarantee that if I went to the Intercept there would be a lengthy HRC feature, I know there will be several on Breitbart, Daily Caller, Fox, you linked to New Republic, etc. These are people that are going to lose a lot of interest and money in her power dying off so they keep her figurative corpse tied to a pulley system of outrage.
So without a majority in the party, with no prospects of a new political career, and with the most major movements continuing entirely outside her - she has no actual relevance. Bernie Sanders isn’t on a very public soapbox considering what she thinks, the DNC has never reached out to her leadership, and you know there are no non-Democrat institutions interested outside of her sizable fan base.
There’s been an uptick, but I don’t think there has been a day since she announced her candidacy that I haven’t seen someone in my facebook feed (~700 people, 80% under 40) doing anti-Clinton memes, $hillary Cunton, The Rich Bitch, Goldman Sucker, etc. The only reason that I even knew she had a book coming out was seeing my friends from college go after it.
If people want Hillary Clinton to go away, they have to commit to not using her as a boogie man anymore. But that’s never going to happen, because the people who do it have no other content.
Fortunately, the “65 million Clinton fans” thing is a delusion. Just 'cos folks voted for her doesn’t mean that they wanted to. The right wing of the Dems are now a rapidly-fading rump.
The fascist/Russian/douchebag trolls will continue to try and use her, but the effectiveness of that will fade so long as they aren’t given too much fresh ammunition.
Schumer refuses to support the healthcare reform bill, and just had dinner with Trump. I would not be surprised to see some bit of catastrophic collaboration involving Schumer, Trump and China emerging soon.
Schumer is one of the consistent voices of support for single payer even if he isn’t one of the endorsements on the bill, as your post after this points out you pretty much have the DNC’s next presidential line up endorsing Sanders’ bill. Schumer has also organized the entire party to filibuster on healthcare.
I get that people are frustrated with the DNC, but the criticism are usually accurate and good rhetoric mixed with mostly false characterizations. While Pelosi is a terrible leader that took Obama’s direction to not rock the boat in the congress to heart, the Clinton and Obama influence on the politics of the party is the minority.
