Like most words to do with genitals, the original Greek smēgma is something purely safe for work, meaning soap or more generally a cleaning agent. In the 90s there was even a new classification of fish including Smegmamorpha, named for the initials of the subgroups and the hope it would help clean up the taxonomy. The kind of clever name that of course doesn’t tell you anything about the fish in question; it did not hold up with further evidence and has been abandoned.

I had no knowledge of this appliance brand/company until i started watching some YT content from a British content creator that primarily does vids about cooking and food. His fridge is Smeg branded and the first time i saw it i also did a double take and then proceeded to chuckle like the juvenile i am.
